How practical or possible is to have two cellular phones programmed for the
same number and use them alternatively?  I can see a problem using them at
the same time but alternatively?  Is this possilble?  Problems?

If they are GSM only phones that use a SIM then you just swap the SIM from
one phone/data device to the other.
If they are analog/TDMA them you can call the provider to do a ESN swap or
have someone program them both with the same ESN this maybe a problem if you
live where it's ilegal to clone phones. If you turn both on by mistake then
the provider may think the clone is stealing service.
What city are you in and how often do you wish to swap phones ?
