Out of curiosity, how did you get the phone programmed and are there any
issues. There seems to be  a trend in the Tampa area to resist programming
non-Alltel branded phones. Thanks!

I run over a phone and ruined it. My daughter had a Nokia phone that she
used when she was on cingular. She gave me. I called alltell and told
them and they said sure you can use it. I had to give them the serial#
and right there while I was on the phone the fixed it where it would
work and told me it was ready to try. I said something is wrong because
it still says cingular on it. They said that is there and the only way
to get it off is to go to a Alltell store and they can do it but it
won't effect it. So I tried it and sure enough it worked. Still using it
on Altell and the  logo on the screen says Cingular.

Don't know how.
Cingular is TDMA.  AllTel is CDMA.

Andrew,
I know nothing about  cell phone other than what I've picked up here
which isn't much. This TDMA and CDMA thing,  seems to me I've read that
a company might have oneway in one location and another somewhere else.
I'm in Central TX. Could that make a difference?

Take a look at the following

Hope this helps.

By the way
 CDMA=Code Division Multiple Access.
 TDMA=Time Division Multiple Access.

The maps that you'll be looking at on the site I mentioned
say A Side and B Side.

The A side is from the days when cellular companies
were part of the Incumbent Local Exchange Carrier (ILEC) B-Side
And the Competing Local Exchange Carrier (CLEC) A-Side

AllTell may be the ILEC or B-Side
Cingular the CLEC or A-Side.

In many parts of Texas and other parts of the country, Cingular is now
operating TDMA, from existing equipment _and_ GSM, from newly installed
Ericcson units.

I don't understand what the map is saying. The lines don't show all
county lines making me not 100% sure where I am. I think my county is
blue on a side indicating AT&T. On b side it is yellow indicating
Alltel. Neither map show cingular in a county next to mine.

L.D.,
Most likely then, Cingular is not one of the carriers
that is serving your area.

As I stated in a previous post, the A-Side
is the CLEC.

Looks like the B-Side map has Cingular serving a god portion of TX.

Motorola phones are fairly easy to program.  Just dial 74663 and hit the
function or menu button twice.  Enter your phone number and SID (00042 for
the Alltel on the Tampa market), and off you go.

You can have Alltel flash the phone with their firmware for the T720. That
took care of it for me.
