Okay, Steve C and others around Richmond. Did you feel that 4.5 quake
Tuesday? And did the cell phones overload?
-Paul-
I felt it, but a co-worker and his customer, less than 10 feet away, did
not. I'm in Ashland, which is about 35-40 miles from the epicenter. I felt
about 20 seconds of good rumbling, and a sound overhead that was like an
HVAC unit about to fall through. I called up a store manager at a location
in Colonial Heights, about 50 miles south of me, and he reported feeling
"something weird" for about a minute.
No noticeable impact to the wireless network, or other utilities for that
matter. There were some news reports of difficulty getting landline calls
through in the area around the epicenter as well as in the west end of
Richmond (Short Pump area), but those were over a very brief period,
probably less than 10 minutes.
The area where the quake was centered is in a very rural area, and even
though it was felt in some populated places (Richmond, Petersburg,
Charlottesville, even Virginia Beach and Washington DC), damage as
minimal... I've experienced THUNDER that shook a building more than that.
