I currrently use an 5185i with Alltel monthly plan. I want to move to
the simple freedom plan. Can I use my existing 5185i? This is one of
the models that Walmart currrently sells for this plan.

Anyone tried this?

Gary,
Alltel might make it easy, you could can call anonymously to ask.  But I
doubt it because the Simple Freedom is separate from Alltel's normal
operations.  But one way it would work is to close you old monthly account.
Then the phone would be available to activate on the Simple Freedom account.
But things change.  There's no way of knowing if Alltel will allow a
non-Simple Freedom phone into the plan, and I would bet they won't let you
keep your old phone number.

Ask.  But I must ask, do you REALLY want to continue using the 5185i?  The
current Simple Freedom Nokia is a much better phone.

Bill,

Will Alltel let one go the other way and activate a Simple Freedom 3585i on,
say, a National Freedom plan?

Baylorr,
I think so, just call and ask.  I found the terms for Simple Freedom state
you can only use the service by activating a Simple Freedom phone.  So
Gary's old phone can't be used.  But it doesn't hurt to ask.

I was in the local office a few weeks ago activating a phone for the
wife. I pulled my Simple Freedom 3585i out of my pocket and asked the
guy if he could switch it to an Alltel plan. He said no.

As long as you own that simple freedom phone, they should hook it up.
Tell them to activate it as a " COAM " phone. Customer Owned And
Maintained. Provided its not active already.
