I've checked into the things mentioned below.  I traded phones with my wife,
mine still is nearly dead by the end of one day.  The people at the Alltel
won't flash my phone to the newest software, because they say it's not
necessary.  Is there a way I can do this myself?  I have the data cable...

How can I check what version I have, and what the latest is?

You are correct that the analog operation is causing short battery
life.  The fault could very well be your phone, but before condemming
it, try trading with your wife for one day.  Your area of the building
may have horrible reception (especially in basements or around
computer rooms) while her area may be fine.  If her phone keeps a
digital signal all day while you're carrying it around, then its time
to look at software revision levels on the two phones or for other
differences.

Does the phone stay digital in other places and at home, or is it
always trying to go to analog?  The T720 had a poor reputation in
early versions of the software, but later releases reportedly fixed
most of the problems.  Did Alltel ever flash the software on your
phone to the latest release?

Okay, I have version:  1.2.22.44.BP

How outdated is that?

No, you cannot upgrade the phone's software yourself, only the PRL.

You said below that your phone switches to analog a lot, but your
wife's phone does not.  That makes me think there is something not
quite right with your phone.  Can you force your phone to "digital
only"?  I'm not sure that the T720 has this setting.  Do you and your
wife both get the same signal when you are together in various places?
If your signal is always worse or dropping to analog when her's stays
in digital, I'd have your T720 sent in for repair.

I have the same problem with my T720. I have had 2 of them and the same
thing. Alltel tells me I am in a fringe area. The phone just is a bad phone.

Good Luck,
Griff
