Not much to complain about when your local towers passes through the NE
quadrant (the REALLY BAD part) of the eye of Hurricane Ivan and never
goes down. Nothing like making a cellphone call from the eye of a hurricane.

Wow!  Simply amazing......

I made similar calls from the eye of Hurricane Hugo, exactly 15 years ago
tonight, when the eye of Cat 5 Hugo that blew the wind guage CLEAN OFF the
destroyed NWS office.  Cellular One of Charleston's AMPS system with its
microwave relays, not landline B system, worked right through the storm.
The original system here was built on 500' WIDE BASED towers rated for 300
mph.  They held fine.  Many of them had TREES sticking out of them above
200 ft off the ground!

Thanks for the Ivan report.....Thanks Alltel!
