I've had that, too. Simple solution? Reprogram all your phone numbers
with the 1-areacode-number in the speed dial. All mine are and it
works
just great...(c;
Thanks for the reply Larry
Does that work all right in the Alltel home area with the 1 in front of
the numbers?
Also do you put the 1 in front of *numbers, such as customer service?
I am going to try it in the next couple of days but I have to drive
about 50 miles to get out of the Alltel area.

Yes, it seems to.

Yes works fine anywhere in the system.

Of course not. Those numbers don't normally have and area code. You are
simply programming the WHOLE number into all the numbers you use. Your
number isn't 456-7890. Your real number is 123-456-7890, even at home.
The equipment has been programmed to let you truncate the number as long as
you are in the same area code. Putting the area code with the number does
not make it a long distance number. Even if it did, my costs for calling
Californicate are the same as the house across the street...airtime only.

You're simply identifying the number you are calling completely, not
truncated. It'll work fine.

I programed my speed dial numbers with a 1 in front of all the numbers
and drove to Delaware, OH which is about 52 miles south of where I live
and is an area where the roaming icon flashes.
It still does not dial out unless I dial the number with my voice dial
or speed dial and then manually redial the number with a 1 in front of
it.
I could not call Customer Service by the *611 at all.
I again called customer service on their ten digit number and asked
them if I have to redial the number again with a 1 in front of it and
she said yes that is the way it works.
I very clearly asked about this at the store several times before I
bought the phone and each time I was told I would not have to double
dial.
I believe I will be taking the phone back tomorrow. I will keep my old
phone with until it quits working or possibly go to TracFone.
This Alltel plan would have been cheaper then my Verizon $15.00 per
month prepay plan as I do not use a cell phone a whole lot.
I do have to double dial also with my Verizon plan but I very seldom
roam with verizon because Columbus is in the Verizon area. That is why
I asked them about the double dialing on Alltel.
