RAZR V3C Voice Dialing Problem

I've had this phone for about a month, the latest firmware was
installed earlier this week.

From the very beginning I've been unable to get voice dialing to work.
I use the command CALL NAME MOBILE (for instance).  I then get a list
on the screen asking me to choose between two or three contacts.  This
totally negates the value of voice dialing from the headset since it
requires the handset to be open to see the list.

I discussed this with the CSRs at the local Alltel store, and was told
the voice dialing just wouldn't recognize some peoples' voices.  I
live in Alabama and do have a sourthern accent but it's not that bad.

Anyone know any tricks or changes to get this working?

There's a training function you can try but you'll really have to work
on the accent. Mine came with UK English and I had to speak with a
British accent to get it to work just sometimes. Worked perfectly for my
friend from England. I changed it to the US English language pack and it
works well now.

"call name mobile" may be too long for its buffer to store in your voice.

Try shortening all calls to something very simple like:

"Dad"
"David"
"Mikey"
"Mom"
"Office"
"Joe's Bar"
"Whorehouse"

The phones, none of them, have much memory for these addons.  When I
first got the V60i a long time ago, I had a similar problem trying to get
cute giving voice instructions to the toy phone.....

I even have a voice command "411", which simply dials 411, in the pitch
dark, when you have no time for button pushing, what with your broken
arm.  I can bang the voice button against the steering wheel, say "411"
and call with out a SEND.  Works great....The shorter the better!

"Voicemail" is another favorite.  It dials my number (including area code
so it works anywhere) then there's pp (two pauses) which gives Alltel
time enough to say "Enter Your Security Code" before it touchtones my
many digit passcode.  All I do is press the button and say "Voicemail".
Unfortunately, Alltel isn't smart enought to start playing the voicemails
by themselves that are waiting.  I still have to press 1.  Hmm...I might
add some more pppp to give it time to connect then put a 1 on after a row
of P's....something to play with tomorrow...(c;

Thanks, but no cigar.

Hmm...sorry.  You'd think with the successful voice decoder software in the
V60's they'd leave well enough alone and not screw it up.

I see a voice mail revamp from them in the hopefully not too distant
future.  When I called tech support about getting rid of the Alltel
message played at the end of your greeting, she said they couldn't do
it right now, but that would likely be the first thing they did since
that's what they get the most requests for.  I'd imagine any change
would be significant.  And damn, they couldn't turn call waiting off
for me, either.

I thought '7' was to Play messages.

Not in Charleston's old 360 Communications system Alltel bought.  1 plays
messages, 5 erases, 3 stores them, I forget the rest.

Even when I'm in Orangeburg on Columbia's old Bell Atlantic A system Alltel
bought, I get the Charleston voicemail, of course, so you have the same
keys no matter where you are....your home system's keys.

There's no Alltel spam on the voicemail in Charleston.  I only hear my
voice as soon as it answers, my voice prompt.  Having to listen to Alltel's
would SUCK!

I was in Myrtle Beach last Friday fixing a church organ disaster.  Alltel's
800 Mhz sure works better at the beach than that little PCS carrier VZW
bought up to get beach coverage....

Hmm, Greenville's Alltel/old 360/old Sprint system uses 3=D to delete,
5=K to keep, 6=P to play.  I don't know the rest.

My experience as well, on or off network (I have total freedom, and am
pretty regularly on non-PRL providers).

Same in Greenville until I hit *, then I get the "Please enter your
passcode".  Some locations, I _THINK_ it is other than Alltel or
Verizon, won't allow me to skip the full prompts; keystrokes during
them are ignored.

Voicemail instructions are available on the Alltel website; they have
you enter part of your number; I wonder how many different systems
they have?

Entering part of your number probably sets which set of instructions you
get.  Not sure how many systems they have but I'd bet its every one ever
installed...(c;

One of Alltel's really nice features is on 411.....voice recognition.  It
is SO much nicer than VZW being able to speak the menu selection numbers
while keeping your eyes on the road than trying to fumble around with the
toyphone keypad to answer VZW's prompter underway.  Every cellphone company
should have voice recognition like this.  It's a great 411 feature.....but,
alas, do the menus have to be so DEEP?!

Sure wish the menu selections were interconnected.  Then I could go
directly to the TSR I want when she first starts menu prompting me.
"Welcome to All....", and I say, "13512" (or whatever number sequence gets
me to where I want to be), overriding all the voice prompt layers in
between.  Even at 60 years old, I remember a new bank account number in 10
minutes thanks to Dale Carnegie training...(c;

You never forget your military serial number....

It's 7 to Play.  The 'P' is on the 7 key.

HEY! How are you doing? I heard about your problem. After hitting the
voice dial button, hit the "settings" button. under the 'prompts'
header, you can turn off the confirmation. Hope that helps!

I played with some of the different settings there and got it working.
Thanks.
