Alltel Customer Service Sucks

Doesn't Matter - 30 Jun 2006 23:36 GMT I filed a complaint with the Executive Office people of Alltel today and was assured by Doris that she would get back to me before cob today concerning my problem. Well that didn't happen. President and CEO of Alltel, Scott Ford should be made aware that his executive office staff are not living up to standards they claim. I will travel to Little Rock and tell Scott Ford in person, should I ever get the opportunity. This will be done legally and within the limits of the law. I urge all people who are dis-satiusfied with their service to call the Executive Office staff and let them know how and why you might be dis-satisfied with your Alltel service.

July 1, 2005, girlfriend and I bought 2 Motorola v265 phones, with a one year contract at WAL-MART
March 11, 2006, the THIRD phone I had broke, again,. in researching the model online, it had several major issues.
the Store in texarkana on Summerhill rd, was less than helpful. I tried to call to see if they had one, and their voicemail was always full.
after making a one hour trip, and sitting for another hour, they did not have a replacement phone for me.
I asked if they would give me another phone to use,and in exchange, girlfriend and I would be willing to lock into a 2 year agreement, till 7-1-2008
NO, you are not due for an upgrade yet.
okay, I went to another provider, and got another phone
March 25, we go back to the same store, since girlfriends phone had broke.
they were tripping all over themselves to upgrade her...... probably because the account is in her name..... even though *I* pay the bill for the last two years.
uh............. NO. you had that choice two weeks ago, and factually breached the contract, since you did not have a phone for me to use. I have went to another provider, she is going to get a phone there, and we WILL shut off the phones July 1, when the contract expires. We attempted to give you every opportunity to keep me happy, but you didn't want to, because it wasn't time for an upgrade. but its less than a week now,and you want to upgrade hers..... right!!!
Wal-Mart did step up to the plate, and refunded the price of my phone...... MOTOROLA did not answer any e-mails.
So, ALLTEL...... you wanted me to pay you for a full month from June 14- July 13....... I did that today..... I also called the Attorney generals office, and the Little rock BBB.....
can't wait for 10 AM to get here........ gonna be fun turning off $1,100 worth of business to them a year.

Thanks for your input. I didn't even think to call the Raleigh BBB or the State Attorney General's Office. I will do that either Monday or Wednesday depending on the holiday closings. Have a great and safe holiday period.

I am sure if he would give details, we >can figiure out something that might be helpgul Hey General Lee, I am not seeing anything by you! I wonder why? I told Alltel when I left Cingular that I would stay with them as long as my wife could get a signal to call in case of emergency. She had a problem with her truck and tried to call me and didn't have a signal where she was at. A guy pulled up to help and he had a nextel phone which worked perfectly. We went to nextel the next day and got phones. Then Alltel sends me a bill for $$29.oo for early termination and I called them and told them I would find out where Scott Ford live, in the Little Rock area and wake him up on a Sunday morning and tell him in person, how bad his customer service is. I won't do anything illegal though cause Alltel isn't worth my freedom! The corporate headquarters is in Little Rock, Arkansas and I have a sister in Shreveport so the next time I visit her I will drive to Little Rock and demonstrate..
Just FYI Alltel buys all of their roaming time from Sprint.
Larry - 05 Jul 2006 23:56 GMT > I would find out where Scott Ford live, http://find.intelius.com/
Hmm...lots of Scott Fords on Intelius, but unlisted on Switchboard.com in LR and the suburbs. You can narrow it down with his middle initial a good bit and his exact town/city even more.....
I traced down the head of Yamaha Motors in Indian Rocks, FL, when Yamaha and its crappy dealer refused to fix my brand new Yamaha jetski back in 1997. I called his house and asked his wife if he was home, like an old friend, not as a hostile customer. He came on the line and we had a nice chat about my problem, but it never got fixed right so I returned it under 15USC50 2304(a)(4) of the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Protection Act that Yamaha didn't think they were subject to. They were...(c;
I doubt Scott will even know what's going on in his company. The yes men keep everything from him they can that's unpleasant, like most corporations run by clones.
But, it's not illegal or immoral to talk to him, directly.....(c;
Too bad the Yamaha guy couldn't help me. I spent the money I would have given them to trade up to a big jetboat to Sea Ray....tsk, tsk....
Pity.....
The Ghost of General Lee - 06 Jul 2006 02:24 GMT >I traced down the head of Yamaha Motors in Indian Rocks, FL Kind of convenient when they only live across the county, isn't it?

How long into the contract were you? And I take it you feel you don't owe the money because of substandard coverage?
The Ghost of General Lee - 06 Jul 2006 02:18 GMT >>>> Update...Mashari in the executive office told me that they said there >>>> would be no relief.. She had a >problem with her truck and tried to call me and didn't have a signal >where she was at. A guy pulled up to help and he had a nextel phone >which worked perfectly. We went to nextel the next day and got phones. If that works out best in your area, then great. No provider is the best in all areas. But you signed a contract with them, didn't you? I understand where you are coming from about the signal issue but that's something that should have been addressed within the cancellation period. It's likely your use of the word "emergency" was misinterpreted to mean a 911 call, which requires the phone to use any signal it can find. But at any rate, if their contract is like most, it disallows any verbal claims made by the sales reps, so even if they did understand what you meant by 'emergency", it won't invalidate your agreement.
>Then Alltel sends me a bill for $$29.oo for early termination and I Surely this is a typo.

Fine, you have an issue and you're dealing with it. Good luck with that. I think I'd spend my time trying to get the ETF thrown out in mediation, but to each his own.
>Just FYI Alltel buys all of their roaming time from Sprint. FYI: No they don't. Maybe in your area that is true, but isn't nationwide.

a one year contract from 7-1-2005 to 7-1-2006 means nothing, when your BILLING runs 6-14-2006 to 7-13-2006.....
then its automatically a 1 yr two week contract
Jo - 16 Aug 2006 07:24 GMT *ahem*
Contract = One thing Bill Cycle = Other thing
If you don't like your bill cycle, you can always have a CSR change it for you...

*I* changed my billing cycle from $1,100 a year in ALLTEL's pocket to NOTHING, ZIP, ZILCH, NADA
its called voting with your feet..... I love my ALLTEL billing cycle now. they get what they are worth NOTHING!!!

I perfer "phone jockey extraordinaire", thank you very much. If by corporate stooge you mean do I work for them, then yes, yes I do. Are they perfect? No. Are they evil? No.
Do uppity customers who insist on being right, say insulting things to CSRs about them, their job, their employer, scream and yell, demand supervisors, etc., get very far with *any* company? No. When I was with Dell, we used to transfer them to Tech Support for Guatemala.
See also, under the $1,100 a year gripe, if you were paying that much, then is the phone glued to your ear or something, or did you just never review the rate plan that WalMart slammed you onto?
sheesh....
ok, done with this thread... have a nice day and thanks for choosing Alltel.

gotta come through De Queen
lemme know, I will be glad to go and show some strength in numbers
Jo - 16 Aug 2006 07:21 GMT *sigh*
the ol' battle of my phone don't work therefore I don't have to pay.
you only get out of the contract if A) You die, B) The US Military deploys you beyond the United States, or C) You terminate with 15 days of activation. Actually, you get out of everything but the activation fee for that last one. Your phone don't work, however, you signed a contract that said I, Johnny Consumer, will buy a rate plan from my carrier for 24 consecutive months, though hell bar the way. What you told Alltel does not in any way, shape, or form outweigh what you agreed to on that contract.
ALSO!
On your "Alltel buys roaming from Sprint" claim: that is pure, unadulterated bull sh.t. If Sprint bought Nextel, and it's all the same network, and Alltel bought roaming from Sprint, then wouldn't the Alltel phone work on the Sprint/Nextel tower? Until less than two months ago, Alltel had no roaming agreement whatsoever with Sprint. Truth be told, Alltel is proud proprietor of America's largest network, making Alltel the single biggest *seller* of roaming minutes, not the other way around.
And how the heck is your wife not having a signal related to Alltel's customer service? How is it providing poor customer service if you fail to read the contract that you legally bound yourself in? I fail to see where Alltel did anything other than what they told you they would from day one--provide service in those locations where a signal could be had, allow you the right to do as you please with your features and rate plan, and charge you a $200 Early Disconnect Penalty if you break the agreement to buy a rate paln for 24 consecutive months.

I wouldn't let Alltell lick the sweat off of my balls if they were dying of thirst on the highway from Texarkana to Shreveport. I knew when I told that customer service rep that I would get some goody two shoes to post in here how great Alltel was. Your customer service web site was where I obtained the information that Alltell buys roaming services from Sprint. Therefore you have admitted that your web site is pure unadulterated bull sh.t. I don't have to worry though, I am no longer bound by a contract to Alltel. Why don't you go kiss Scott's a.s some more you corporate freak of nature.

what chaps my a.s is I can use a good credit reference, I paid alltel on time, in full for 2 years , and I have nothing to show for it.
DAMMED idiots

Uhm... phones don't break themselves, y'know. I had a Nokia do that once, but the nice lil drop on the concrete floor at work a week previous sure helped.
And why did you do the research after you bought it? Wouldn't it have made more sense to do the research first?
> the Store in texarkana on Summerhill rd, was less than helpful. I tried to > call to see if they had one, and their voicemail was always full. OK, this is a legitimate gripe, and I will not defend Retail for failing to live up to the brand promises if that's legitimately the experience you had.
> after making a one hour trip, and sitting for another hour, they did not > have a replacement phone for me. Did it occur to you to call Customer Service instead of driving? $8 in shipping is probably way less than what you paid in gas... unless you're looking for a warranty exchange, in which case, you get to blame Motorola for that--their warranty, their money, therefore, their terms.
> I asked if they would give me another phone to use,and in exchange, > girlfriend and I would be willing to lock into a 2 year agreement, till > 7-1-2008 > > NO, you are not due for an upgrade yet. Uhm.... didn't you say you signed a 1 year contract? If that's the case, why didn't you point that out? And besides, the only reason the contract exists is that Alltel takes a bath on the phone when they sell it at that discounted rate.
> okay, I went to another provider, and got another phone > [quoted text clipped - 3 lines] > the account is in her name..... even though *I* pay the bill for the last > two years. Well... let's think... account is in her name... she signs contracts, her credit takes the hit if you stop paying the bill, so before we go and stick another contract on these numbers, shouldn't we consult the person who signed the lil paper that says s/he took ultimate responsibility for the whole enchilada? If Retail had let you sign that upgrade contract, would you be on about it being invalid since you're not the account holder?
> uh............. NO. you had that choice two weeks ago, and factually > breached the contract, since you did not have a phone for me to use. I have [quoted text clipped - 3 lines] > wasn't time for an upgrade. but its less than a week now,and you want to > upgrade hers..... right!!! No, and no. Alltel is not liable for the phone--you are. Read the contract, then cite it. And you can upgrade within 90 days of the contract expiring.
And didn't you say you took a ONE year in 2005?? Why did it not dawn on you or your g/f to point this out to any of the retail reps, or call and talk to Customer Service (who can do upgrades) or Cancellations (who has control of the contract)?
> Wal-Mart did step up to the plate, and refunded the price of my phone...... > MOTOROLA did not answer any e-mails. That's because WalMart sold you the phone in the first place. If they own and operate the kiosk, they train the rep, they own the phones. If WalMart admits "Oh, right, we sold you a piece of poo", then it's on them to return it--not Alltel.
> So, ALLTEL...... you wanted me to pay you for a full month from June 14- > July 13....... I did that today..... I also called the Attorney generals > office, and the Little rock BBB..... And what did the Attorney General tell you? Hopefully READ YOUR CONTRACT! The terms and conditions state that the last month is not prorated. After all that time, you know when the bill cycles. You know how it's billed. You had every opportunity to protect yourself as a consumer, and instead, you opted to terminate 1 day into your bill cycle. Is that Alltel's fault? Hardly.

ALLTEL had an opportunity to keep the $1,100 a year in business on March 11, they chose not to, and they have to live with their decision

I SWORE I would never buy another NON NOKIA, flip phone, or another phone from walmart, but when you live in "green acres", and girlfriends ALLTEL motorola that she got replaced March 25, craps out again on May 8, and she is leaving May 10 for a out of state trip, you do what you gotta do.... give her your NOKIA, because WM has crap for selection, and buy something cheap, and pray.... still didn't work... time to call the regional manager at WM this week, before I go fight with vivian this weekend.......

thats why **I** fired them July 1.
I called, told them to transfer me to wherever, knowing I would get transferred to someone that would try to talk me out of cancelling
conversation went something like this.... this is Mark, calling about acct # whatever, in the name of Charlene, address is etc, etc, etc,
its july 1, go read the log on this account.... you can cancel them right now, on my say so, or I will hand the phone to her 3 feet away, and she will tell you to cancel them
you wanna do it the easy way, or the hard way??
the phones were off within 30 minutes... ALLTEL swore I couldn't cancel them myself
ALLTEL LIES a lot!!
Jo - 19 Aug 2006 05:08 GMT > uh, YES,,,,, I did think to call. the response I got from Summerhill Road , > is that they are "too busy to answer phones, and empty voicemail, so > customers can leave a message" Not call the store. Do NOT call the store. The store is a *sales* channel, not a *service* channel, it's like that with most companies. They sell things, not fix things.
> YES, GIRLFRIEND signed a one year contract. Girlfriend was standing right > beside me, when I offered to hang around for **TWO YEARS** additional, to > get the situation handled. No, instead ALLTEL opted to lose a 2 phone > contract, generating $1,100 a year Again, why did you not point out that it was a 1 year and you should have been eligible? Answer the question and take some liability for screwing *yourself*. Or, you *think* you signed a 1 year, but you paid 2 year price and never read your contract...
And there's no such thing as a 2 phone contract. That's why you'd get 2 penalties--two contracts, one for each line.
> Girlfriend was with me on both occasions, March 11, and March 25. > > ALLTEL had an opportunity to keep the $1,100 a year in business on March 11, > they chose not to, and they have to live with their decision Or, Retail said "hey, if we lose this one, we don't have to see him ever again..."

Also.... had problems with Alltel, having problems with Cingular... what're you gonna do, just go through all the carriers and bitch about them all? Dude, get a landline.
> >> So, ALLTEL...... you wanted me to pay you for a full month from June > >> 14- July 13....... I did that today..... I also called the Attorney [quoted text clipped - 27 lines] > > ALLTEL LIES a lot!! And you're proud of yourself because you threatened to flip out on Retention, the one and only one department that could have gotten you the new phones if you had CALLED THE DAMN CALL CENTER in the first place?! Instead you keep calling the store, the Retail (retail, meaning SELLS THINGS) store, instead of Customer Service? Do you think you're going to get Customer Service from someone other than Customer Service?
I'm so glad you think we lie, and I take personal exception to that. Having worked in a lot of call centers for a lot of craptastic companies, I know what a company that lies a lot is (I'm thinking of a Texas-based computer company... another story...). While you may have a point about bad service at Retail, you should also realize that the store is not the end-all, be-all, you disserviced yourself by insisting on driving yourself crazy with Retail, you didn't read your contracts, you're probably one of those folks who beats the crap out of his phone (which I do too, which is why I have phone insurance), and then demands free things left and right. These things cost *money* and we're not Unicef. You really sound like the kind of guy who calls whatever company and thinks because you paid them for this that or the other that they should bow down and kiss your balls and let you scream and threaten and be abusive. This, sir, is not only a bad way to do business, but a great way to make sure no service person anywhere ever offers to go one inch out of their way--to say nothing of being just blatantly uncivilized.
Anyway, I'm done with this thread. You have fun with Cingular, and whoever you choose to use after them, and keep on goin' back to that WalMart...
Patrick Q - 19 Aug 2006 17:11 GMT >> uh, YES,,,,, I did think to call. the response I got from Summerhill Road > , [quoted text clipped - 119 lines] > whoever > you choose to use after them, and keep on goin' back to that WalMart... $1,100 a year for a cellphone or two... gee, you must really be a player. $1,100 a month is a drop in the bucket to them for the amount of bitching and whining you give them. Hell yes, go to Wal-Mart and see what kind of service after the sale you get there.
I bet you were late on your bill all the time too, thus tying up more resources of Alltel's collection department. They are better off without you. Trust me.

the bill was paid in full on the first of the month, every month, and due by the third
