What is location info used for?

What is location info? All the LG AX155 manual says is "5.2 Location Menu
for GPS (Global Positioning System: Satellite assisted location information
system) mode. 1. Press ok, 9, 5, 2. 2. Use Up/Down to select a setting,
then press ok. Location On/ E911 Only ". RRREEEAAALLL useful description,
"gab 2" (the author field in the user manual).

I suspect it's for the roadside assistance feature, #tow, but I don't know
for sure.

It's primary use is for passing along location information to 911
centers.

But the options are '1. Location On' and '2. E911 Only', so it seems that
Location On would have something beyond E911 location, I would think.

Yes, that's why I said primary, which is why it can't be turned off
for 911. It's my understanding it can be used for on-phone
applications, but I don't use any of them. My Kyocera 440 says in
it's onboard help, "Sharing position location allows the network to
detect your position. If disabled, the position information is only
shared with emergency services. If enabled, additional services may
be possible depending on your service provider."

If kept on, it is useful for when you get in an accident, your
broken/batterd body is flung from the vehicle, and you're lying in the
country as your life ebbs away.

With the tracking 'on', once those who care find you're not coming home for
dinner, they can alert authorities who now locate you in the bushes at the
bottom of the ravine.

Withou it on, you'd have to be able to maneuver your broken hand/arm up to
dial 911.

Next chapter will be "kidnap scenario".

But this phone and the website doesn't say how to view my gps data, or can
only other people with advanced alltel phones with gps apps view it?

The equipment at emergency response stations view it.

Police stations, fire stations.........

There are services on theweb that you can sign up for that will track a
phone, in case you want to keep track of your kid or stalk an ex-girlfriend.

I don't know what they cost.

All I can advise is to go to the Axcess Apps section on your phone and
browse the Axcess Store. It doesn't cost you anything but airtime to
browse, so do it at night or on the weekend, if those minutes are free
to you. If you find an app that looks like it might use GPS, click on
"Info" for that app. It's at the bottom of the list of purchase
options. Most tell you who the app is by, and you can Google that
name and the app name to get more info on each.

And then, there's always the option of calling Alltel and asking them
what services use that feature with your phone. I believe it varies
by model.
