I will probably be doing a lot of travel to Europe and Asia this year and
am thinking of moving from TDMA to GSM.
Would be most interested in hearing anyone's experiences of using their
phones overseas, and, also, is there one with a good sync with Outlook so I
can get my phone book and calendar on it?

Your best bet would be a GSM Palm phone.

I have had excellent coverage in most of Western Europe (London,
Zurich, Berlin, Venice, Paris, south of France) with fairly good
coverage in Central Europe (Prague, Budapest) when using AT&T's
overseas partners. Much better coverage than I've had here in the
states with AT&T GSM. =\
I have never seen a good Outlook sync on a pure phone (Palms are
obvious better). "Tolerable" is about the best word I could describe
my experiences with syncing a T720 (with Starfish) and V400
(Motorola's mobile phone tools version 2) to Outlook. I also do my
syncing from a folder that is a copy of the actualy Outlook master
contact list -- the sync apps have always screwed up my Outlook
contacts, regardless of my endless experiments with different
settings.
