Renew contract now for a free phone or wait till Cingular takes over?

Now that Cingular is taking over AT&T Wireless(unless the gov. says
no), should I wait to renew my AT&T wireless contract (and probably
get a free phone) or wait till Cingular takes over? Does it matter at
this point?

It will likely be a year before that happens. By then Verizon may be
breathing down the new "Cingular"'s neck as the largest cellular
carrier, so who knows how management will handle that???
