I am interested in both the Nokia 6200 and 6800 phones. Which of
these have the best reception? Are there other ATT GSM phones which
are better?
Thanks for any help,
Frank McGirt
I shelved my Sony Erricson t68i in favor of the Nokia 6310i. I lost the
color screen, but now I can actually make calls. Just got a letter in the
mail from ATTWS, they want me to trade up my 6310i for a new phone. The
letter says they have enhanced the network in my area, and I need to get a
new phone to take advantage of the enhancements? (could they be referring to
GSM 850?) At any rate, I'm keeping my 6310i
I'm thinking you cant go wrong with any Nokia phone.

You obviously never carried the 8260:)
Actually, I still swear I had the only good one Nokia ever made. I got it
directly from Nokia when I worked for AT&T. All the ones we received to
sell were horrible.

I think that is right as I have been very pleased with the 3589i with
Verizon. Hopefully the 6200 would be as good with ATT.
Thanks for the response.

It could be that the new phone supports 800MHz, or it could be that they don't
know that you changed from the T68.
But yes, they are adding 800MHz in a lot of areas of the country.

It says right on the paper "Nokia 6310i" If I want to get a new phone for
free, I have to agree to another year with ATTws, and I don't want to do
that, I would like my contract to run out so I can go to Cingular. If I
knew more details about ATTws customers becoming Cingular customers, I would
consider it.
What's the ETF? $175? It may actually be cheaper to pay it then it would be
to stay with them for another year.

They are two different companies until it says Cingular on my ATTws bill. Or
at least until it says Cingular on my phone. Any word on when they will be
splicing their network together?

Probably years for total integration but some parts should come together in
rather short time. Hopefully free system to system roaming will come soon.

Actually we recieved an email that they are now sharing towers between
companies in Central PA and Phila area. From what I heard from my account
exec don't look for anything else to really happen until Jan 05.

Its going to take quite some time. I dont think the network will be
merged even by the end of the year. However maybe free roaming between
the two networks regardless of your location might be in place after
the FCC/DOJ and shareholders agree to the buyout of ATT.

The guy down at the mall Fones-R-Us kiosk said it would be week after
next. I believe him. He has a direct line to John Zeglis so of
course he'd know for sure.
