My roomate has the SE T616 and I had the Samsung x426.
After about two weeks I returned my Samsung but the roomate kept the
SE.
I had terrible sound quality with this particular Samsung model (have
heard that other Samsung models are very nice).
This was confirmed by my AT&T rep who told me that although it was a
decent no frills phone a LOT of people were returning them because of
bad sound quality (reception strength was fine - just a major issue
with not being able to understand what people where saying - sort of
an electronic garbling mixed into the conversation.
I would definately go with the SE. You will apreciate the extra
features as well. The Samsung x426 really is bare bones.

Harry,
Thanks for your comments, they are appreciated. I had seen comments
regarding issues with the x426 mic volume and some had suggested that
turning it down, either normally or during the call seemed to help. I
don't recall which option actually worked. It seemed to be related to the
fact that the mic was overly sensitive, but who knows.
Well, as luck would have it, another variable was thrown into the mix just
today.
AT&TW released the Motorola V600 today. It is available on their web site
for $199 and I am trying to pursue an option to upgrade my wife and I to
that, if we can do it. At that price, it is worth it, versus the $300+
that AT&TW Customer Service wants via phone. We have been AT&TW customers
since 1992, so perhaps I can leverage that as well.
The V600 is supposed to be available in most AT&TW stores possibly yet
this week, so if I am unsuccessful with CS, I may try a store in our local
mall.
We'll see how it goes, but it if we can get a decent price now or be
patient and wait a bit for one.... :-)
Thanks again!
Marc

AT&T has just removed the T616 from the phones it provides for free.
It's now $49.99
At BestBuy, however one can currently get a T616 for free with activation
on Cingular.

Our sales force including me has 17 of the Samsung. We love them & have had
no problems at all. The color screen is brilliant.
