xw - 29 Mar 2004 20:31 GMT Ya, but you stupid troll, why did you leave out the KEY REASON why they are slashing spending?
Bear Stearns analyst Phil Cusick said in a research note published on Thursday that AT&T Wireless is pulling back equipment orders in markets "where Cingular Wireless already has upgraded its network to the latest gear."
Hmm makes sense they dont need new sh.t if cingular has already implemented it..

And what of this line from story?
Cingular, on the other hand, has said it planned to scale back spending from the $3.5 billion it spent in 2003 to levels around $3.0 billion
xw - 29 Mar 2004 23:09 GMT Obviously when two MAJOR networks COMBINE there is alot of OVERLAP and alot of equipment in places that help the two, so why would they need to continue spending massive amounts of dollars to get an infastrucure that is already in place? think this over for your self, and stop trying to add more chaos and hate directed towards ATTWS.

If its that simple why are both ATTWS and Cingular keeping it secret, and why did the Wall Street Analyst have to feret out the cuts?
xw - 30 Mar 2004 00:13 GMT Because people like you who have totally no idea how major corporations work would react in the same way you are by spreading false information that doesnt even pertain to the truth

Scott Stephenson - 30 Mar 2004 00:43 GMT > Because people like you who have totally no idea how major corporations work > would react in the same way you are by spreading false information that > doesnt even pertain to the truth Here- let's play it Bobby's way for a bit.
Robert, can you direct me to the following public internet links for the company you work for:
-exact count of employees on the payroll at the end of February -amount spent on advertising YTD -amount spent on Capex so far this year, along with an up-to-date projection for the rest of the year
What's that? Can't provide them? Why would you work for a company that keeps these things secret? After all, you have such a high moral standard. Are you practicing what you preach?
Robert M. - 30 Mar 2004 01:10 GMT > Because people like you who have totally no idea how major corporations work > would react in the same way you are by spreading false information that > doesnt even pertain to the truth And you think you know I have no idea because??
And why are you defending their secrecy? Do you defend Condi Rice also?

Do you defend Condi Rice also? You're keeping secrets- I ask you for the same type of information, and you refuse to give it. Of course, that would mean that your company is in financial trouble, according to your line of thinking.

He obviously doesn't understand the concept that "it's none of his business".

Maybe it is because you have been wrong about everything to do with the business end of AT&T
You said-
- AT&T would never be able to offer 7pm nights because of the GSM software - AT&T refuses to honor web prices at retail stores - Cingular paid over $50B for AT&T
How many of those were right? What's that? NONE OF THEM????? Hmmmm.......I can't imagine why anybody would question your business knowledge.
> And why are you defending their secrecy? Do you defend Condi Rice also? They didn't tell us how many rolls of toilet paper they ordered last week, either. I smell a corporate conspiracy afloat- we can call it "Toiletgate".

Because you are the only one having a fit about this- the stock ended up today. I guess you are smarter than Wall Street.
xw - 30 Mar 2004 03:43 GMT I suppose scott.. that he.. indeed has "no comment"
LOL
:)

I guess you are smarter than Wall Street. Scott Stephenson - 30 Mar 2004 04:10 GMT > I suppose scott.. that he.. indeed has "no comment" One of three things will happen here:
1. He will stop posting to this thread. If he feels the need to continue whining about this, he'll start a new thread. 2. He will snip something I've said about him out of context and complain about it, totally ignoring the true subject of the post. 3. He'll post under a different name (he's used over 50 in the last year) in a vain attempt to make it appear that he has some support.
One thing that won't happen here- he'll never respond to facts or questions. He's not capable of it. He never has, he never will.
Robert M. - 30 Mar 2004 13:30 GMT > the stock ended up > today. I guess you are smarter than Wall Street. Duh, the Stock Market jumps 2 1/2 percent Momnday and AT&T Wireless barely goes up one percent?
Maybe the secrets were a drag.

(Adds AT&T Wireless comment, paragraphs 5-8) NEW YORK, March 26 (Reuters) - AT&T Wireless Services Inc. (NYSE:AWE - News), which has agreed to be acquired by Cingular Wireless, has begun to scale back spending on network expansion this year, a Wall Street analyst said, citing industry sources.
Bear Stearns analyst Phil Cusick said in a research note published on Thursday that AT&T Wireless is pulling back equipment orders in markets where Cingular Wireless already has upgraded its network to the latest gear.
The report, citing sources attending the CTIA wireless industry trade show this week, runs counter to plans laid out in January by AT&T Wireless to boost investment in its network to help reverse high customer turnover and offer new services.
Cingular, on the other hand, has said it planned to scale back spending from the $3.5 billion it spent in 2003 to levels around $3.0 billion to $3.1 billion. Cingular is a joint venture of BellSouth Corp. (NYSE:BLS - News) and SBC Communications Inc. (NYSE:SBC - News).
"Under any measure, we're making a huge investment in our network this year," David Caouette, a spokesman for AT&T Wireless said.
While he declined to comment on specifics, he said the company has sought more cost-efficient methods to expand its areas of coverage by signing agreements to share access to networks with other wireless carriers.
"These cost-effective roaming agreements are lowering our expenses," he said. "We are always evaluating our capital expenditure plans."
Caouette also said that when AT&T Wireless spelled out its 2004 capital spending plans in January, executives had signaled that budget plans could materially change if a merger occurred. Cingular in early February agreed to pay $41 billion to acquire AT&T Wireless.
But Cusick said growth in new subscribers at AT&T Wireless could fall below the 348,000 he was estimating for 2004 if AT&T Wireless's network quality did not improve.
Delays in upgrading its network also could be exploited by rivals such as the Verizon Wireless venture of Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ - News) and Vodafone Group Plc (London:VOD.L - News), Sprint Corp.'s (NYSE:FON - News) Sprint PCS (NYSE:PCS - News) and Deutsche Telekom AG's (XETRA:DTEGn.DE - News) T-Mobile USA in certain locations, Cusick predicted.
While the drop in spending in the last few weeks could prove temporary, Cusick said, he now believes the service provider could cut its 2004 spending to under $3 billion from his prior estimate of $3.3 billion.
"While this is preliminary, we believe that spending could fall into the mid-high $2 billion range from the $3.3 billion that we currently model," Cusick said.
AT&T Wireless had forecast 2004 capital spending around last year's level of 20 percent of service revenue, which translates into around $3.3 billion in spending on roughly $16.4 billion in revenue. (Additional reporting by Eric Auchard)<-----------
Not sure what your point is but it only makes sense since, as the article states, all "new" network would have been Cingular overlap anyway.

Gosh!
Cell merger - 31 Mar 2004 02:23 GMT AT&T Wireless stock on March 30 was down, while stock market as a whole finished up.
Scott Stephenson - 31 Mar 2004 02:46 GMT > AT&T Wireless stock on March 30 was down, while stock market as a whole > finished up. Why did you change names, Robert M? Trying to make it look like you have support?
