My new Malamute Stuka took my Siemens S56 right off the charger and crunched
it up.  I was able to save the battery as a backup for my kid's M56 and the
SIM card.  So, I have been trying to get help from ATT but nothing yet.

My question is can I just buy a new phone (like an unlocked S56 on eBay) and
just put in the salvaged SIM card and expect it to work exactly as before?
I loved my S56 and I want to bid on a new one but want an answer as to to
how to get back on line and return the kid's M56.

Yes, you can.

Yes, you can SIM swap into a new AT&T GSM phone.

As long as you are using AT&T service and will continue to do so, you
don't need to worry about getting an unlocked phone. An unlocked phone
tends to bring a higher price on ebay than a locked phone of the same
model.

FWIW, I've bought 4 AT&T locked S56's (at different times) on ebay for
$50-75.
