Starting Sunday April 18 AT&T is rolling out the new GSM America plan which
will replace the GSM Digital One Rate (TDMA DOR is not affected).  The rates
will be similar to the current group of National plans (which formerly only
included on-network coverage) but ANYWHERE your phone works in the US is
included in your minutes.  These plans will also be able to share minutes
(or add-a-line) which was not available on the DOR.  The new plans will also
include unlimited nights and weekends as well as unlimited mobile to mobile
(with a 2yr agreement).  Mobile to mobile will only apply when calls are
made FROM the AT&T network but you can call to any AT&T subscriber
regardless of where they are physically located (this is no change from the
current M2M).  So, what's the downside?  The $29.99 plan is going away.  The
included minutes on the $39, $49 and $59 rates are being reduced from what's
available today (this will vary by market).  There are no more free holidays
(Christmas, New Year's etc.).

Now the best news.  Current customers PAY ATTENTION!  If you are currently
on a National plan (this includes almost every GSM National plan since 2000
with the exception of the Charter plans (you know who you are)) you get the
new enhanced coverage without having to change your plan.  This means that
someone on the current $39.99 National plan which includes 600 anytime will
still have 600 anytime minutes but will also have the new coverage.  The new
$39.99 plan will include 450 minutes.

Hope you like it!

And be very careful because if you change plans you'll lose any
grandfathered features.

Some of the indicated coverage through Cingular isn't available yet.  I
switched from a Digital Advantage plan to a national GSM plan to take
advantage of the increased coverage (and get the larger # of minutes).  In
Northwestern Oklahoma, apparently Cingular's network is NOT online as of
yet.

I wonder when AT&T will finally get all of their own network upgraded, there
are still areas in their network that have TDMA, but no GSM.

I have been to at least on AT&T site and usually 2 a day for the past 8 months
and have not been to one yet that is just TDMA.  I have been to NEW sites that
are GSM only however.
