OK...
So now I have my  gsm att phone unlocked.
I will be in UK next month.
What's my cheapest option for receiving calls and also calling back home to
US?
Buy a payg UK sim card or what..?
Do I buy it when I get there, or ahead of time?
Any sim card recommendations?

I've heard that Orange PAYG has the best rates for calling back to the
US.

You can easily get a PAYG card when you get there from just about any
mobile phone shop such as Car Phone Warehouse (CPW).  You can also get
them from http://telestial.com , but you will pay considerably more
for it than if you got it there.  The advantage of getting it from
Telestial is that you'll have the number before you go.

Having traveled in the UK last month with my unlocked v60g with great
success here is what I would do.  Purchase a prepaid Virgin Mobile SIM,
they are available at every virgin megastore and other Virgin outlets as
well.  As far as calling back to the states their rate was 20p (pence)
per minute.  I found this worth it as I needed the convenience of a
mobile phone, far cheaper to the states than Orange/02/voda prepaid from
what I remember. Oh yeah pricing- it will cost you 10 pounds to purchase
a card with 5 pounds of credit and then you can purchase top up cards in
a variety of denominations.  I purchased mine at the Virigin Megastore
in Picadilly in Central London.

Hope this helps.
