If you can get AT&T to activate it, the Siemens S46 is a very nice phone.
HOWEVER, it is not color and is not polyphonic. It is a "business phone"
both in styling and function. It has a smooth, rounded gray case and
easy-to-read (IMHO) amber screen. No camera, no color display, no fancy
ringtones. You *can* view certain grayscale bitmaps and also set them as a
"screensaver" background. But it is nothing fancy. My phone has a B&W
photo of my kid.
On the function side, it syncs with MS Outlook easily and the software comes
IN THE BOX. You can either use IR or an optional serial cable. I just plug
it in, click a special sync button on the Outlook toolbar and then unplug.
Contacts (name, address, e-mail and multiple phone numbers) plus calendar
events/alarms all sync automatically. You can also set functions or phone
numbers to be controlled by voice command without paying for AT&T's special
service. You can also "beam" electronic business card info to someone's
PDA, etc. or print (to an IR-capable printer) through the IR port. It also
lets you record phone calls and make voice memos at the push of a button.
The big hang-up could be AT&T not letting you sign up for their multi-band
plan. Check with them FIRST. As for system compatibility, AFAIK, the
Siemens S46 was ONLY made under exclusive contract to AT&T Wireless.
Hope this helps some...

so you would need another plan? that's what I was afraid of. I am on the family
plan now and that uses a gsm phone.

Yes, you can use an unlocked one off e-bay.

I wasn to sure if it would work the same as a normal phone.

Double check w/AT&T, but I don't think it will. The TDMA part of the
phone has to be activated by AT&T, or else the phone will function in
GSM mode only, which doesn't help you a bit.

I think it will work if you get the SIM for the Sony/Ericsson GAIT phone.
GAIT SIMs have the TDMA information on the SIM. The Siemens S46 is not a
true GAIT phone.
