Hey all:
I'm looking for adviice on the best way to purchase ATT service when I
already have a nice tri-band phone without a SIM.
I'm figuring that if ATT doesn't have to subsidize the phone, I should
be able to get my wife a better deal on service -- or at least, I
should not have to sign a contract to get a better deal.
Advice?
(My work gave me a new ATT&T phone with service - but I popped their
SIM into my SX56, so my work phone is now available for my wife).

At best you might get away with no contract, but I'm not sure if you can
still do no contract with AT&T anymore.

ATTWS will activate your unlocked GSM phone. Yes there is a contract. LA
market and some others 1000 peak, unlimited m2m, 9p to 6a off peak $39.99.
Added phone $10 2 year, $20 1 year.
Cingular will to month to month with your unlocked gsm phone

You may be able to get away with no contract if you don't accept any
promos like N&W or M2M minutes. But then you have to ask yourself if
the price is still acceptable? Most plans have these promos built in
to the price of the plan, so you're paying a premium to not have the
contract. Go for a good free handset, get the contract with the
promos, and then eBay the handset.
