Can the ATT Wireless customer serivice reps offer customer retention
discounts? The website says that the lowest prices were online. Is it
worth calling in to see if there is a deal to be had on a Motorola v600, or
is it too new for that?
Thanks.

Likely too new, but you wouldnt get a deal if you didnt ask.

Anything in an ad is just that, something to make you buy.
CSR's do not have better deals, usually. January, 04 started larger makkets
with 1000 peak National for $39.99. Feb 04 added or switched 1000 m2m to
unlimited. Gotta get it when they offer

Customer retention groups usually have offers that only they can offer and
new customers cannot get. They have several options. As a previous poster
said, it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Is there a special phone number at AT&TWS for such?

Usually if you call customer care and tell them you're looking at switching
to another company and wanted to see what they could do to keep you, or
simply just say you want to disconnect service. They have to forward you to
the retention group.

The lowest I got on the v600 was $254.99. That's with an upgrade to
national plan for 2 years. Cingular is offering the v600 for 149.99
with 2yr new activation. I think I'm going to wait till the merger
takes place. I'm also getting real tired of these long term contracts.

And Cingular sells its phones "unlocked".

They may not be able to lower the price of the phone, but they can
make you some other deals. I bought a v600 about 2 weeks ago over the
phone with an AT&T rep. He sold me the phone for $299, but offered me
an $80 credit on my bill for re-upping my contract.
