ATTWS Still Marketing Aggressively

Jeremy - 05 Aug 2004 18:18 GMT I find it strange that ATTWS continues to market aggressively, in the fact of the upcoming acquisition. In the past week, they have put 4-page color inserts in our Sunday paper, they continue to advertise on radio (probably TV, too. I don't watch much). I just received a solicitation from them to set up a account with them and get a free phone (I am already a customer).
One would think that they were in this for the long haul.
I wonder how their new customers are going to like being told that they are being transferred over to Cingular, just a few weeks (or days) after they signed onto a term commitment with ATTWS? Remember not everybody is aware of the upcoming acquisition.
I wonder why ATTWS is fighting for business, right down to the wire?

I don't find it so strange: First, everybody is on commission and bonus system, so it pays to have the money coming in. I mean, if I am getting a percentage this month, what do I care what happens to the company name a few months later? Second, having a big customer base can only strengthen the position of the attws executives within cingular. As for customers, they will somehow be grandfathered in.
ptltasm - 29 Aug 2004 07:00 GMT There are legal reasons which keep any companies which merge or when one is buying the other from "gun jumping" in respect to planning or operation before the purchase is complete.
I think the thought behind this is that when two companies conspire to set prices or work in some way to limit competition, this is bad for the market, thus illegal.
Even if it looks like two companies will become one, they cannot behave as such until they are one company.
"Well, you're Honor, we were going to become one company......."
Think about it.

Back in the Mid '70's when the "Common Carrier" industry was just getting started, MCI was NOT the first company to get customers on line. A company called N-triple-C was the first.
Shortly after N-Triple-C's IPO, MCI managed to buy up most of the companies stock and took over the company without any government approval. Although they applied and went through all the processes, N-Triple-C was never legally integrated into MCI. As far as I know my N-Triple-C stock is still listed on the boards as N-Triple-C and still pretty worthless.
So your above statement is legally true but not always the way it goes.

You must pay attention in class when they teach you that some words *sound* like other words but they do *not* mean the same thing!
You're is not the same as your! Neither is to or too.

The answer is no. Unless you have something definite I don't see why ATTWS shouldn't go on with business as usual. They still have bills to pay and it would be a stupid move not to solicit *any* business at all. You make it sound as if the correct move for ATTWS it to just put a closed sign on their doors and just say that they're no longer doing business. I don't know of any company that is being taken over that says that they don't have to do anything because they're being taken over. It didn't happen with Powertel, Omnipoint, DigiPH or any number of other businesses. I don't see why it should for ATTWS.

Does it really matter? A contract is a contract. You provide me with at minimum the service I signed up for, in the areas you described as being covered, at the price I signed up for, for the term I signed up for.
Does it matter who's doing the billing?
Anyone who gets all bent out of shape over something like this needs to get a life.

To some people it does. I know people that have left Cingular for ATTws, and now, they are going to Verizon, since Cingular bought ATTws. Just like with ATTws, Cingular Verizon, etc, people have had bad CS encounters that have turned them off to they company and have gone elsewhere. Its funny though. People have gone to ATTws from Verizon due to bad CS, and there are some that have gone to Verizon from ATTws due to bad CS. That make any sense? didn't think so.

>why >did you leave Cingular to start with? ATTWS GSM subscribers may now roam freely on Cingular, giving them the combined coverage of ATTWS and Cingular, whereas Cingular subscribers are prohibited from roaming on ATTWS (which I frankly think is a bit shabby).
That difference, plus better Customer Service and some nice incentives (discounted bundle of voice + unlimited night&weekend + 7pm nights + data + free incoming messages + text messages + picture messages), pushed me into switching from Cingular to ATTWS. Since I have an unlocked phone and month-to-month service, the switch was relatively easy.

That you think you know it all, AND insist on letting the world know you think you know it all--no matter what.
