The advantages of having the neatest piece of new technology continue
to pour in for iPhone owners. Intuit has joined the bandwagon of
technology companies developing services or special products for the
iPhone crowd.

"Intuit iPhone-friendly Quicken priced at $3/month"

"They said they decided to tweak the product for the iPhone ahead of
other devices because Apple enthusiasts tend to be early adopters of
new technologies. They may be more likely to embrace a software as a
service product, said Jim Del Favero, product manager for the Quicken
group."

"Quicken's U.S. market share rose to 80 percent in the first 11 months
of this year from 72 percent in 2006. Microsoft Money's share of sales
declined to 19 percent from 25 percent in the prior year, according to
NPD."

Intuit "also plans to tweak the service so it works on the Blackberry
from Research in Motion Ltd and other mobile devices.

But company officials declined to say when that will happen."

So let me get this straight- for $3/month, I can store my personal
financial data on a portable device that might drop out of my pocket.

Or I can load it on my PC for a cost of about $1.50/month and have my data
secure.

Hmmmm- I wonder which is the more prudent move?

I'm guessing it's actually stored on Intuit's servers, since you can't
store much other than media on an iPhone.

Pocket Quicken has been available for Palm OS and WinMo for four years or so,
at least.
http://www.landware.com/pocketquicken/index.html

It supports password protection of your info, and syncs with Quicken on
your desktop, and doesn't require internet connectivity to function.

Quicken on the iPhone- another "new" iPhone feature that isn't, well, new...

(And another online service that begs the question, if the iPhone has a
"real browser" why does it need a customized iPhone web portal, rather than
just using the "real" one?)

Similar to Quickbooks's web app access for a monthly fee instead of
purchasing the software for your own PC.

Right- does that require some sort of plug-in?  If it's all browser-based,
I'm wondering why the iPhone needs a separate version, although I
understand wh Intuit wants to sell them one!  ;-)

It would seem advantageous (to the end-user- not Intuit) to just "share"
the account between your phone and PC, since it's accessing the same data
on the same servers, and the PC/phone is just acting as a terminal.

Good point.
I wonder how they will secure the data.

I saw an article within the last 24 hours where it is predicted the
iPhone will change the way many use the internet. More and more people
will use a phone to access the internet instead of using a PC during
2008. I have already seen this at work so it may come to pass.

Do a Google search for that news.

It is all part of the plan to move the webbers off their computers
running client software and moving data over the net at no cost other
than an ISP....into a web-browser-based new internet world order where
every damned thing you do is server-based so we can CHARGE, CHARGE,
CHARGE.....

This crap is nothing new.  Remember when JAVA was going to take over the
way we did things on the net and put them all on some rent-from-me server
bullshit and all the local web software was supposed to go away so you
could rent JAVA server time to see your own pictures?

One hopes the internet users haven't become such stupid Sheeple they'll
buy this line of crap....$3/mo here, $5.99/mo there, $2.99/mo over
there....How stupid.

Speak for you own carrier.  Mine, T-Mobile, offers unlimited internet for
less than I'm paying for my DSL line.  If it wasn't so damned slow, I'd
ditch my broadband.  (And no TOS, BTW!)

I'm not talking about the carrier, which is of no consequence.  Haven't
you notice how many web-based apps are pouring onto the market because of
these hobbled WebTV devices?  Get the free running, free programs OUT of
their devices and make it server-based, webpage accessible so we can
CHARGE them to do exactly what they've always done.....or we can give it
to them IF they don't mind us selling thousands of damned flash and
moving GIFs on every page.  We'll RENT them content...or rent the
advertisers content...

The damned webpage net is just like American radio, nearly ALL spam, all
the time.  70% of every webpage needs to be filled with spam movies
blinking and flashing at the really stupid Sheeple operating the Pods, I
or otherwise.

They're, once again, going to try for the Rent-A-Net concept....$3/month
here, $5/month there....and that's on top of your ISP/carrier, who may be
getting a kickback, of course, per hit from his domain.

Sure hope the public wakes up and says NO again.....
iPhone, Voyager, WebTV, internet appliances....spreading...not good.

translated:  there was obviously a market who spends money on stupid
stuff like crazy, and we knew we could get $3/month out of them without
any effort whatsoever as long as we made it work on iPhone.
