pay a monthly subscription charge of $9.99 for unlimited routes

See?  SELLPHONE!

Maemo Mapper is free on the N8xx tablets.

Wayfinder, commercial mapping with voice directions, now comes WITH the
N810 GPS tablets.  Nokia simply bought the company to stop the piece-by-
piece little map packets.  N8xx owners can download the whole continent to
their large SD and microSD cards, now, and don't have to use the stupid
Navicore dongle card any more.  Wayfinder is now installable on your own
memory card monsters...as much as you like.

Map upgrades are free and there's no subscription fee nonsense.....or
SELLphone monthly charges....yecch.

a) you don't have to pay the $9.99; you simply don't buy the product

b) YOU have a SELLphone, therefore it MUST be good

You seem to be against people buying things they've decided they want.
Why is that?

Personally, I enjoy reading people who are passionate about something. Larry
would make a great salesman for Nokia. I rarely read anything with passion
regarding iphone, just the usual smarmy snippets that do nothing to peak my
interest

Google Mapping is FREE on the iPhone and can provide driving
directions.

And in 6 weeks when 3rd party apps are available for the iPhone,
all manner of GPS apps will be available.

No GPS. You have to enter your starting address and ending address. Then
Google maps kicks in.
