Tried the VZ Contact Backuyp - which is good,
but manually entered for a normal non-sync'ing phone.

With some other carriers,
their Contact Backup might also have an "export" and "import"
so PC files can be used to save or load your contacts.....
But not on VZ - their backup application is just that - a phone backup -
So - wonder which carriers have the "import" and "export"
of contacts to a PC ?

I just hand the Alltel rep my phone and ask him to copy the phone book onto
a floppy. They'll do that for free in our Alltel store. They have this
huge console thing with plugs to fit hundreds of old phones.
Of course, then I have to boot up one of the antiques to read the floppy...

If I swap phones, they copy the files off onto the new phone as a matter of
sales.
