Q: Why is charging of Motorola phones so slow on the travel charger?

A: The standard travel charger packaged by Motorola with many current
phones puts out insufficient power for fastest possible charging and for
continuous use while charging.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
For example, charger SSW-0509 for the V551 puts out only 375 mA.  The
V551 detects this as a slow charger, and thus keeps the external display
backlight off during charging.  Worse, there's not enough current to
keep up with use of the phone while charging, so while the phone is use,
the battery will still be discharged even with the phone on the charger.
With a fast charger the external display backlight is on during
charging, and the phone can be used while the battery is charging.

Motorola makes fast 1500 mA chargers that are compatible with these phones:
* SPN4716* (where * might be "B" or "C"), also known as
* NNTN4250 (nominally for Nextel, but also works with non-Nextel phones).
These chargers are readily available from dealers and on eBay for under
$15 (plus shipping).
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Motorola mini USB (EMU) chargers for RAZR, KRZR (with power output if known):
* Wall "travel" (AC) charger (comes with the phone)
 + Motorola SPN5185/SPN5185A/SPN5185B/98604H: 550 mA (mid)
 + Motorola SPN5202/98605: 850 mA (fast)
* Car (12V) charger
 + Motorola SYN1630/SYN0847/98603H/VC700
* External rechargeable battery/charger
 + Motorola SPN5353/P790/98782H
* (5 pin) mini USB cable to computer: 500 mA
 + Motorola SKN6371C
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
(For what it's worth, Motorola probably saves less than $1 in cost by
packaging slower chargers instead of fast chargers with its phones.)

Q: Where can I get USB modem drivers for Motorola cell phones?

A: <http://developer.motorola.com/docstools/USB_Drivers/Handset_USB_Driver/>
  [registration required, but free]

1. UNinstall any existing driver in Device Manager before installing this
  driver.

2. Install this driver _before_ connecting cell phone.

Every time this crap is posted, someone feels he HAS to comment!

Thank you for doubling the number of junk postings.  Don't anyone bother
to thank me for tripling the number.

For some, it's like a train wreck...  You can't NOT look!  ;-)

To be fair, the number of replies/complaints are _way_ down- the stupid bi-
monthly FAQs USED to touch off 30-40 post debate threads over just what
plague of Biblical scope we all hoped John Navas should be subject to for
posted them- now we're down to just one or two complaints or cease-and-
desist requests.

Personally, I look at it in the scope of the groups' totality.  Are Navas'
six stupid "FAQ" posts a month to .attws annoying?  Sure, but lots of folks
here post at least six annoying things here each month (myself included,
I'm sure!) and Navas' are easy to filter and/or ignore, as are the replies.

No doubt he set his news reader to automatically send out those monthly
posts. Just be thankful that that's the extent of his nonsense these
days. Maybe he got tired of losing every debate.

You're the one that needs help. But I do want to thank you for staying
out of the photography groups. Your lack of photographic understanding
and mediocre skills with the craft are not missed.

You come in here twice a month to post sh.t about nothing and you, two+
weeks later, telling *another* to "Get professional help"?

The irony.

At least he hasn't been posting in the photography groups lately. His
photographic knowledge (and expertise) matches his knowledge of cell
phone chargers.

Why would we thank a whining moron?

Someone has to keep telling him he's a moron. He's obviously not
getting it.

Why do you expect a moron to be able to understand that he IS a moron?
Telling a moron that he IS a moron may make YOU feel better but it's a
waste of time and bandwidth!

On the contrary: making oneself feel better is a valuable use of time &
bandwidth.

<mmmm.  that felt good.>

Q: How can I create a ringtone from an MP3 file on my hard drive?
A: Use Audacity freeware to convert MP3 songs to MP3 or WAV ringtones.
  http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Making_Ringtones

I downloaded Audacity freeware and created a few ringtones from MP3s on my
Windows PC hard drive so now it's time to try to copy the ringtones I
created from my Windows pc to the Cingular AT&T Motorola RAZR cell phone.

Can I just install these freebie Motorola USB drivers, connect the RAZR,
and slide the MP3 ringtones as files onto the Motorola Cingular AT&T RAZR
as a hard drive???

Here's my question for the FAQ:

Q: How do I transfer MP3 ringtones from my PC to my Motorola cell phone?
A: ???

I will try and report back but it would help if someone can tell me if this
is the best legitimate freeware method to bring a ringtone from my PC to my
AT&T cellphone.

Yes, if the model has a memory card.  Put the phone's USB connection
into Memory Card mode, and treat the memory card as a disk drive.
