Remember the days when the Apple fanbois GUARANTEED that the iPhone
business model was going to overtake the wireless industry?  How Steve Jobs
was a genius for insisting on no subsidies and revenue sharing?  How
carriers would be lining up to willingly do whatever Jobs wanted?

Fast forward to the present- subsidies in place and revenue sharing gone.
AT&T estimating that the iPhone will cost them $1B in earnings for the
year.

Our little iPhone has grown up to become just another cell phone. And not a
real functional one at that.

Sorry, thats not at all true. Apple stock is back up, ATT is thrilled
with sales, iPhone users are thrilled with their devices.

Everyone is happy, but Bob.

Not surprizingly, you missed Bob's point.  The trades were filled with
stories of this "brave new world" of manufacturers calling the shots-
revenue sharing, unsubsidized phones, etc.

Bob simply pointed out that Apple's grand experiment failed, and iPhone
Deux is being sold jUst like any other phone- subsidized and no "bonus"
post-sale revenue share for Apple.  Apple will make their money the old
fashioned way- on device sales only, just like Nokia,Samsung, Motorola, et
al.

Spot on, Todd.  The fun part will be watching just how long it is before
Jobs get bored with selling a product he doesn't have complete control over
and makes the decision to "take the company in a different direction."

nah, they'll make tons of money on the Application Store, old line cell
companies simply don't have the resources to pull something like that
off.

Yeah- none of them except for Blackberry, Motorola and a few others.

Make that me and the investment community.  AT&T stock has given up a lot
of ground since the announcement and nobody' benn tripping over themselves
to buy Apple.
