Treo 180 on AT&T

After reading a few posts here about people using the Treo 180 on
AT&T's GSM network I picked one up on eBay. It was a T-Mobile unit but
they gave me the unlock code. I currently have a TDMA phone on AT&T so
I picked up an AT&T sim card and unlocked the Treo. So far so good.

When I called AT&T they told me they couldn't activate it on their
network for the following reasons:

"my supervisor has never heard of it, so we won't activate it"

me- can you find someone who has heard of it

"we can activate the 270 but not the 180"

me- the only difference is a color screen

" if we did activate it would cause service problems because it
doesn't have an AWS part # on it"

me- It's a GSM device, you have a GSM network, I know others have done
it...

No matter how much I argued with her she insisted she couldn't
activate it.
Am I mistaken? I should be able to do this, right? Can anyone suggest
a strategy that might work here?

Thanks!

Activate a GSM plan take the SIM card and place it in the Treo, no problem.
I have been running a P800 for 4 months now instead of the ATT T68i, ATT
does not need to know the equipment you are running only thing is that there
will be no support for it

Call back, once an hour, every hour, until you find
a Rep thats willing to be helpful.  if necessary, lie and and say its a
270.

Stop in to a store and get the cheapest gsm phone (something should be free
with a new plan) along with a new sim. Activate it, put the sim in treo 180
and talk away. If you don't need the extra phone sell it along with the
extra sim on ebay.
