Update iTunes to 7.7 and check it out...

552 applications. Of those, 417 are paid apps, and 135 are free. Of
those that are paid, the most common prices were $0.99 for 85 apps,
$9.99 for 82 apps, and $4.99 for 62 apps. They've compiled a bar graph
of the prices, which you can see after the break.

anyone can see the entire list, just open up itunes, go to the itunes
store, and they are in the first column, marked "App Store" (New).

I don't want to sign up for iTunes JUST to look at a list of apps available
for the FruitFone.  Why are they hiding it from the general public?  It
seems like FruitFone apps would be the biggest selling point of 3G, beyond
the faster speeds in some areas.

Why are they hiding??

you don't have to sign up to use it, it's entirely free. you only need
an account if you purchase something.

go here, uncheck the first 2 boxes, put in a bogus email address:

aa@bb.com

then click the button --> (Download iTunes Free)

easy as pie.

80 megs of crap for the install.

but much of it is to bring windows up to speed compared to a Mac. Macs
are so much more advanced in the graphics, audio and video department
it's laughable, so windows needs QuickTime plug in all the gaps that
Microsoft has no idea about.

download it and see, or just get a Mac and not deal with the flimsy
windows platform.

Why would I download it ? No need for it. Plain and simple.

How's the 3G iPhone working with Flash ? ; }
I forgot, It won't.

but you will at some point.

flash is battery draining and is proprietary, so it's a dead end long
term.

looks like apple is going the SproutCore route.

proutcore/

also good reading is the register piece, decent info to help you learn
why flash doesn't make sense on handheld devices.

And so is 3G,GPS and other apps. If it had a user replaceable battery those
apps would not be a problem for the battery. You would do just like any
other cell phone user does. Swap it out. Apple being the money sluts they
are prevent that. Yes you can if you have the tools. But not in the field
use.

How long has iTunes been out ? Never Installed it as of yet and never will.

ifixit.com reports the NEW battery is SMALLER than the old battery!  The
old battery was 1.4AH and the new battery is 1.1AH....a significant
decline.

which means the 2.0 components are less battery draining. apple simply
starts with a "base line" for battery usage. then uses the battery that
matches that goal. so it's good the battery is smaller because that
means the electronics are better this year, than last.

That's good logic...  ...and my coffee beans must be 33% tastier this year,
since they come in a 12oz bag instead of 1lb. bag like before...

since when do beans become twice as tasty, half the price every 18
months?

your mixed metaphor doesn't hold up.

What's "half the price?"  Apples gives up on their revenue sharing ideas,
allowing AT&T to subsidize it the same $250-300 they subsidize every other
high-end phone and this is supposed to be a massive price cut?

iPhone I buyer should be steaming mad that Apple "stole" the two-year
contract subsidy any other phone would've entitled them to, in the form of
a long-term revenue-sharing commission!

But, all is back to normal now- in just one short year, after Apple was
going to "change the wireless business forever," the "evil cellular
companies" are back in the driver's seat, Apple's commission concept is dead,
at-home activation is but a memory, and Apple will soon get back in line
with Nokia, Motorola, LG, Samsung, etc. building devices to carrier
specifications.

Give it another year, and "iTunes activation" will likely be history
altogether, after AT&T gets tired of having a list of special
considerations and procedures for one company's products.

> your mixed metaphor doesn't hold up.

It was supposed to sound as ridiculous as your battery diatribe.

Obviously, many design desions are made for many reasons, but Apple
wouldn't shrink the batery because it lasts as long in the new model as the
old one did in the old- besides, as you've linked, Walt Mossberg already
told us battery life is less in the new model.

Obviously, form factor was the consideration- the new phone was designed to
be roughly the same size as the old, and I suspect the new battery was all
they could fit in.
The poor engineers apparently didn't even have enough room left to squeeze
in voice dialing!  ;-)

I suppose by now, hours later, you've read the many reports of much reduced
battery runtimes from realtime testing.....using the same battery tests
used on the first model.

The old phone ran much longer than this puppy....so I'll ignore the other
digs below this thread.

turn off 3G and it will be exactly the same... what SJ said about the
poor performance of 3G is true, so it's better to go with pure WiFI and
do an end run around the old monopoly of cell phone companies... they
are dead anyway, so let's all grow up and kill them faster...

bad battery life is a CONDITION of a non-competitive market...

apple is simply waiting for them to die off, thus WiFi / WiMax is the
answer "long term"... and Apple is just positioning themselves for the
"great fall" of AT&T and Verizon, etc...

learn how the computer industry works, it's FAR more efficient than the
cell industry. we all laugh at how poorly cell companies are run each
and every minute...

and the power consumption of the device has declined even further, so
it's a net win.  only with 3g is run time impacted; if both devices are
in 2g mode, the new one lasts longer.

you're really missing out.

it's not-unlike saying, "I'll never install a Web Browser, never have
installed one, and never will".

iTunes is GREAT, probably the most important app on the planet of the
last 5 years.

so sad you aren't closing your eyes to such a wonderful new world.

LOL! you do not have a clue. "sign up"? you don't sing up for anything
you idiot.

It should  be funny to read the rambles of you and the other jealous
Nokia fanboys as iPhone 2.0 raves come in.

I think it is easier to do it straight from the new iPhone. They use
the same interface as iTunes has in the ITunes store on the phone
except it is dedicated to iphone applications.

Apple is sorry because they included some crap for the unwary that  I
would not allowed but hopefully that will quickly shake out.

i thought that too, but went to the iTunes store for something else and
the larger screen and the ability to batch download, then sync makes it
quicker, much quicker.

yeah, there are some weak apps in there, but the reviewing system helps
figure that out... all the Tip calculators is absurd :)
