Porting Number for iPhone cancel other cell phone contract

Hello all, quick question,
I just ported my number from my Verizon account to my new 3G iPhone.
My question is does porting my number automatically cancel my verizon
cell phone contract?

Yes, and may cause you to pay an ETF to Verizon if your Verizon
contract had not expired.
