I originally posted this on alt.cellular.cingular, but perhaps it
might be more appropriate here:
I used to use the Medianet unlimited package (on an Edge phone) from
At&t/Cingular to get an internet connection from my laptop when I
traveled. I haven't used it in more than a year, but an upcoming trip
has me trying to get my new Vista laptop configured to use it.
I've read through the FAQs and configured it the same way that I
always did using a userID of WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM and a password of
CINGULAR1. When I try to connect, I get an 'error 734 the PPP link
control protocol was terminated'. I did a search for this error and it
seems to indicate that the userid or password is incorrect.
My old laptop is still around and I tried it from there using my old
configuration that used to work. I get the same error.
I'm wondering if AT&T/Cingular has changed the userid or password. Or,
perhaps, they have blocked Media Net users from doing what I am trying
to do. I'm not going to spend the money for an expensive data plan
since my usage is pretty small.
Does anyone have this working?

So, no one has this working? Will I have to go with the more
expensive Data Connect plan?

Might check for a code update.
I have a Laptop card that did work, then tried it, it said it was not
registered.

So, your laptop card used Media Net and not Data Connect? I thought
laptop cards were only sold with the Data Connect service?
