I don't know about this particular product, but I subscribe to
VersionTracker's daily update and specifically asked for the OS9
updates, and yet 99.9% of the stuff is OSX only. I think it's caused by
bad data entry by the product developers - they intentionally add
products to EVERY category simply as an advertising system.  :-(

I got an email back from version tracker.  When an iPhone connects, it's
dumped to a whole separate set of webpages it can render.  Another funny
thing happened when I was looking at it, too.  A Sprint Instinct commercial
popped up...(c;

Version Tracker says they know iPhones can't render their regular
webpages....

.....that's for real computers.

versiontracker automatically sends an iphone friendly site, but at the
very bottom there is a link for the full versiontracker site, should
one prefer that.  this is no different than what a lot of sites do.

and the iphone renders the site perfectly, thus it is a real computer.

No problems using VersionTracker on my iPod Touch.

Try the RSS feeds from http://www.pinchmedia.com/. I use the free
application NetNewsWire to read them. You have a choice of four

- New applications feed

- Updated applications feed

- Top free applications feed

- Top paid applications feed

One more time......The site renders perfectly on iPod/iPhone because it has
identified ipod/iphone and sent you a DIFFERENT SITE that will render on
those devices.....a website without flash player ad movies and other web
devices these itoys do not render....

You can't get the website on you itoys because it is never sent to them....

you need to pay attention.  at the bottom of versiontracker's mobile
friendly site (something many sites do) is a link for the full version.
tapping on it causes the full html to be sent, just as if it were a
'real computer' and it renders perfectly.  thus, the iphone is a 'real
computer.'

> You can't get the website on you itoys because it is never sent to them....

it is, you just refuse to believe it.

I don't know what Larry is complaining about, but some website adverts
pulled from places like Google are in Flash and other peculiar formats
that MIGHT not work on the iPhone ... hell, some of them don't even
work on my computer's web broswers (including causing them to crash).
BUT, that's a fault of the advert's creators, not the website itself
nor the iPhone. Simply reloading the web page often pulls another
random advert in a different format which will work.

Good point
Another reason to use Ad Blocker in FIREFOX

i'd love to see adblocking on the iphone.

Just download and install it.  iPhone can do anything, you know....

Correct.

Correct. The functionality of _that_ site had to be tailored for the
flash-less iPhone and *improved* for the iPhone screen and navigation
style. There are _many_ other examples of cross-platform web serving for
different internet browsers, appliances and mobile platforms. Ever heard
of WAP?

And probably never will. In my view Apple is nervous about downloadable
code modules like Java applets and Flash as they make user applications
possible while also bypassing the App Store (losing revenue).

> You can't get the website on you itoys because it is never sent to them....

Correct. I *thankfully* don't see the PC version of Version Tracker on
my iToy, it's pants and ten miles too wide :-)

To see the amazing diversity and super quality of iphone software being
presented, one only needs to check out the Editor's Pick page at Cnet to
find the creme-de-la-creme of iphone software, such as Flashlight, iPint
and Units......

Can "Office Suite for iPhone" and "SQL for iPhone" be far behind?

Flashlight is one of the best programs the editors could find?!

it's only been 8 days larry, about 90 apps have been added since then.

and don't knock the flashlight apps, they work well since the iphone has
the largest, brightest, screen of any cell phone. it works just like a
regular flashlight, cool.

Hey, Flashlight 1.0 is one of iPhone's most popular downloads!

Actually it works like a flat-panel electro-luminesent nightlight, like
every other phone or PDA with a flashlight app.  A "regular flashlight"
uses a parabolic reflector to concentrate it's output on a smaller spot.

The coolest "flashlight" app I ever had was for my old HTC Wizard- it
illuminated the high-intensity camera flash LED instead of the display.
(But still paled compared to a real flashlight.)  My new WinMo phone lacks
a flash- a pity, since it actually has a relatively decent camera compared
to the absolutely embarrassing one on the Wizard.

Wouldn't it be easier to just click on "App Store" and then "Updates"
right in the iPhone interface?
Adrian C - 22 Jul 2008 13:31 GMT

No. That only updates the things that are loaded.

The desire is being able to watch day by day which new paid & free apps
have been released to try. Apples App Store does not do that.
