Even Microsoft, Symbian, and BlackBerry can stop apps from running on
devices. All they have to do is pull the signing cert of a developer
and put it on a blacklist and push that info to each device. And bam -
all apps by that developer stop working.

We have looked at Android, but at the moment we do not have plans for
it. The SDK is a mess and there is no market. Probably not a good
business decision to work on anything there.

Er, ah, Vic? Symbian is now OPEN SOURCE and Freeware. Anyone can have it
and the sourcecode and the coveted SDK......sorta like Maemo Linux.

Well can any mal-content simply kill any of your applications using
the Symbian backlist feature?
What is to stop some mental person from dumping a virius or other evil
software that steals all you vital information and emptying your back
account via Symbian?

Nothing, but it doesn't happen because you can't have access to it unless
you have the phone in your hand.....same as any other OS that uses a
loader.

Nice deflection, though.

The greatest thing about the open source movement is those hackers you and
Apple are terrified of. My whole tablet is just stuffed to the gills with
the great software they write!

I notice you clipped the rest of the quote:

Besides, Alec isn't entirely correct, at least for WinMo. While WinMo
devices can be custom configured by mobile phone operators to require apps
to be signed, the OS itself does not. Of the eight WinMo devices I've owned,
only one has required signed apps- a Verizon WM phone- the most (actually
only) carrier-crippled WM device I've ever dealt with.

In addition, Microsoft doesn't "push" ANY info to a Windows Mobile device.
Ever. Updates are offered by the device manufacturer, not Microsoft.
