I have a Nokia 6800 (gsm only) with the ATT National Plan.  Sometimes
my screen will say "T Mobile" instead of ATT.  When the screen says a
provider other than ATT will I be charged roaming fees or does ATT
have aggreements with some of the other providers?

thanks
chad

if you have a national plan then when ever your phone reads anything
other than attws you will be charged roaming no questions asked, only if
you had a local plan in only a couple of places will attws pick up the
roaming charges in your home calling area

thats not actually correct. in most cases it is. but in major cities it
may read another carrier, but since attws offers coverage in the major
cities you will not be billed for roaming there.

There seems to be no clear answers to all this right now.  I've talked
to CS numerous times on the issue and not gotten any clear answers.  I
was on the GSM natiional plan, roamed on T-Mobile in Denton, TX and got
billed for it.  I also roamed in another part of town and did not get
charged for it, so i think right now it may be specific to the site your
in or perhaps there systems are not 100% effective in "catching"
roamers.

To be safe, if on a national plan and your phone roams in a city with
AT&T coverage, expect roaming fees.  If your on a local plan and in your
local coverage area and you roam, expect no roaming fees.

As per usual AT&T Roaming strangness, "generally Speaking" if you are on
a national plan and your phone reads anything other than AT&T, you can
expect roaming charges.  HOWEVER, in some cases (Cases which AT&T
refuses to elaborate on the where's) AT&T has recognized a shortfall in
their coverage and is allowing a certain amount of off network roaming
but will not "officialy" admit to this but acknowledges that certain
restrictions have been "eased" in certain unnamed areas.

So bottom line, if your phone reads other than AT&T, expect roaming, if
you geta way with it without getting charged consider yourself lucky and
keep quiet about it=)
