AT and T Wireless Cuts 1900 Jobs
Although the booth was packed (at COMDEX), AT and T Wireless employees
seemed stunned over the just-announced layoffs.

AT&T Wireless has cut 1,900 jobs to reduce its operating costs. According to
the filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the cuts are
designed to help AT&T Wireless achieve the best operating margins in the
wireless industry by 2005. AT&T Wireless currently employs about 30,000
people.

case!!

Received a notice at work today - (AT&T rents space off of my company of their
cell tower.)  The letter says that they want to purchase the "land" for "so
much" - and if "land" not for sale - they might be cutting their cell towers.

Sounds like there are more cost cutting measures in the future.

BTW - I'm in NE Ohio.

It also comes not long after they set in motion plans to open a call
center in India.

yeah... did u hear what happened to Orange UK (wireless phone carrier, like
ATTWS, TMO) when they shifted customer service operations to India? It was a
blast. The Brits had fits as they couldn't understand the indian accents,
the indians couldn't understand the various british accents. and the indians
used aliases like joe, tom, susan, etc... well, its ATTWS turn to join the
circus.

A friend in tampa, FL lost his job at verizon (he's indian) because verizon
shifted the whole project and oprations to iindia. he said pretty soon VZW
network testing, etc... will be done in india before they roll-out in the
USA. america's choice, is it?
