I'm an AT&T GSM customer. Originally when I signed up I went for the
cheapest charter plan, I think it was $19.95. A few months after that I
upgraded my plan to the $29.95 national plan. That was supposed to include
200 minutes and unlimited night and weekends. "Sure," they said, "you can
always upgrade your plan."
Well come to find out that all of these months, I DIDN'T ACTUALLY HAVE
UNLIMITED NIGHTS AND WEEKENDS. Now, I am not a heavy user, and generally
don't even use up my 200 minutes, so I never even noticed, but this kind of
stuff just pisses me off. I mean, wouldn't they have to *try* to not give me
the unlimited nights and weekends -- that was the plan at the time, how
could they screw that up?
To tell you the truth, the issue was more that after talking to AT&T for 20
minutes I am left wondering exactly what I actually do and don't have in my
service. They don't exactly inspire confidence. I posted a separate thing
today on alt.cellular.gsm about trying to determine whether I can SMS to
Thailand. The SMSes leave my phone, AT&T confirms their delivery with a
status report back to my phone, and charges me $.25 for the outgoing int'l
SMS. Even though they know Thailand is not on their list and sure enough the
SMSes didn't get through.
I mean, my phone works, there's no complaints with the nuts and bolts of the
service itself for making and receiving calls inside the US, but geez! I
think the whole wireless industry just sucks. There are so many plans and so
much churn that it outstrips the ability of the companies themselves to
track it all and deliver consistent, reliable service to their customers.

Did you call AT&TWS Customer Service and ask them about your
night/weekend minutes? What did they tell you?
I had a similar problem a couple of years ago when I switched plans.
I was told on the phone that if I switched to a certain digital
advantage plan, I could get free long distance with an ongoing
promotion. Great, I said. Well, next month I get my bill and see
about $30 in long distance charges! Turns out the promotion covered
long distance only at the next tier of minutes - the original CS
person had been mistaken. But, they decided to honor this mistake in
my favor and gave me free LD for the rest of the year. Of course, I
was firm but polite.
I haven't used AT&T customer service in some time, but when I needed
it, it was always terrific. Too bad I will be leaving after Nov 24
due mostly to deteriorating phone service.
