I'm still trying to find a suitable replacement for my t68i.
As always, ATT tells me that they will have a slew of new phones this
quarter. And, as always, they can't tell me one model number.
I've been wanting to replace my phone for 6 months or so, but I've not found
anything that I see is significantly better. The new models that are showing
up around the world look good to me.
From what I see out there, I want one of: Nokia 6600, Siemens SX1 or
possibly the Sendo X (if it is anything more than vapor ware).
The ATT store said they will not handle any phone that is not 850. None of
the above are 850.
For those of you who really know and understand phones:
1. Is it likely that Nokia and Siemens will make a version of those phones
with 850? Or will they forgo the US ATT market?
2. Are there any phones on the horizon (by Feb or March) that are similar to
the Nokia 6600 and Siemens SX1 that will be handled by ATT (Bluetooth is a
must for me.)
3. Should I care about 850? Where is it deployed now? I live in Houston and
spend a lot of time in S. Cal. Is there a major 850 presence in either?
4. Should I just buy a standard 6600 which is available now and use it a
year or two -- even though it is not supported by ATT? (I'm not sure what
"supported by" means; what do I give up by getting a phone that ATT does not
sell?
Thanks for taking the time to respond.

AT&T doesn't sell the new phones without new service anyway, best I can tell
one has to go to ebay and that sucks big time.
Why does AT&T and the others limit the number of phones they sell and why
don't the major phone producers like Nokia, Aony etc sell direct?
I see the estimated retail prices on these phones and gasp, not one of them
is worth half
the money suggested, they are too limited.

I've had great results with phones through ebay. Most are unlocked, and as
long as you check the feedback and rating of the seller, there is no reason
why you can't get a great phone at a good price, WITH NO CONTRACT!!

This is simply not true. I walked into a store in Tucson and bought a 3560
with no trouble at all. I walked into a store in Charlotte, NC and bought a
Seimens M56, no problem at all.
Both of these purchases were within the last 2 months.
