Let's hope the next guy can implement some real change.  Williams &
Alston haven't done much to improve things.

Williams to step down
iTnews staff

Australia will get a new IT minister at the next election with Daryl
Williams -- Federal Minister for Communications, IT and the Arts --
announcing on Monday that he would step down.

In a statement, Williams said he would not contest for re-election for
the seat of Tangney in Perth, Western Australia, at the next Federal
election.

Williams took over the IT portfolio from Senator Richard Alston in
September 2003.

Williams said: "I have been privileged to have been Attorney-General
for more than seven-and-a-half years and to hold the interesting and
diverse portfolio of Communications, Information Technology and the
Arts."

He said his decision was due to "family reasons."

"While I continue to enjoy the challenges of being a minister and a
member of parliament, I look forward to devoting more time to my
family after the election," he said.
