Hi all,

Just signed up for a 24-month cdma *couple* plan with orange...  Can
anyone answer the following

1.  Is there anyway to *sensibly* adjust the speaker volume during a call?
it's pitfully low on the Nokia 3105.
2.  How do the call charges work if I enable the call redirection facility
to redirect to another orange phone?
I'm hoping that the *free* orange-to-orange thing kicks in rather than
the suck my account dry plan
3.  I have yet to see the magic telstra roaming symbol on the phone (syd
metr).  What does it look like on the 3105?
4.  If I upgrade to a higher plan, can I use extra bonus points as call
quota?
5.  Is there anyway to revert to older firmware if I turn on the
auto-magic phone update facility.  Me doesn't
want Orange to take away useful phone functionality...
6.  Anyone got a DKU-5?  Is it just a plain cable (ie. can I make my own),
or does it have some hardware inside?
7.  Is there any software to read SIM card phone books and upload them to
the 3105.

right that's bout it

Cheers

No menu option other than using the left/right keys during a voice
call. Same applies to the "handset" handsfree option. The default
setting for both of these is "medium".

You will not be satisfied with the "high" setting either. This is a
known problem with this handset. You should report this to customer
care and may even be offered another (more expensive) handset model
for the same price.

I believe that a patch for this is coming from Nokia but it may be
some time off.

Why are you doing this? Did you connect just to get new handsets? If
yes, contact customer service and have the numbers swapped. You're
going to ask for a "3-way swap". Insist on it when they say no.

Don't know about diverted calls. Orange usually charges standard call
rates (rather than the 5½¢ per 30 seconds that other carriers do).

Check your manual.

What bonus points?

Like manually selecting another network? Take it to a Nokia service
centre - though I'm guessing that they'll flash it with Orange's
latest agreed version.

Not I.

NFI.

Thanks Charlie,

I didn't know about the right key call options, thanks.

I'm going to make a token call diversion to see what happens on the bill.
The main reason for it is that my wife makes 99% of the mobile calls, but
Orange now employ a 50:50 credit strategy on their couple plans.  My
cunning plan was to simply swap phones halfway through the month and turn
on the call diversion feature... maybe i'll have to be secretary.

I'm sure that the Orange blurb talks about bonus credit.  Normally it's
used to pay off the phones over the course of the plan.  Higher rated
plans have more bonus credit than the cheaper plans.

It's a USB-Serial adapter cable (i.e it plugs into a USB port on your
computer, but uses a driver so that the computer sees the USB port as a
"serial" port). Yes, it does indeed have hardware inside it.

DO NOT waste your money on Nokia's official DKU-5 cable. The $150 they're
asking for it is pure daylight robbery. There are clone cables that work
perfectly (they use the "Prolific" chipset) and they'll only cost you $40.
Beware - there are some DKU-5 clones that don't work with Nokia's PC Suite,
but I can confirm from first-hand experience that the Prolific-equipped
cable works perfectly.

Just wanted to know if anyone would recommend either the Samsung N361
or LG HD7130 over the Nokia 3105 ? why ? (why not?) I am thinking of
getting a pair and interested in knowing which one had better
functionality

thanks,

Sam
