After checking the responses to my last post searching for a decent
Bluetooth-enabled phone, I'm leaning towards the Nokia 6230
http://nokia-asia.com/nokia/0,,48196,00.html, despite mixed reviews. The
7610 http://nokia-asia.com/nokia/0,8764,58346,00.html looks fantastic , but
will probably be restrictively priced and there's no sign of it yet.
Unfortunately, Vodafone have apparently recently ceased the practice of
including subsidised phones with their plans. Given that I've been with them
for 4 years, average well over $50 a month and was offered a complimentary
SE T610 a few short months ago if I'd recommit to a set contract, this
didn't exactly thrill me. Most of my regular contacts are on the Vodafone
network, so I'm reluctant to leave, but I will if my loyalty is to be
rewarded with an extra $600+ bill!
So what are the alternatives? I'm off contract and happy to sign up to a new
one if I can get the phone included. Virgin offer the Nokia 6230 for free
with a 24 month contract on their $40 plan. Pretty decent call rates so it
looks pretty tempting. AAPT will also throw one in on a similar plan, with
the advantage of still being on the Voda network, but there call rates are
woeful and their network bonuses are non-existent.
Anyone else seen any decent 6230 deals going around?

Ive had my 6230 for 2 days now, pretty good phone. Im with Telstra on a 24
month contract, 50 dollar plan and you get 45 dollars worth of free calls
and i think the other 5 bucks is for picture messages. You've got a choice
of 4 incentives to go along with the plan like 50 free sms, 18cents for 5
mins to any phone between 8pm and 7am things like that. I do more than 50
bucks a month so really your gettin the phone for virtually nothing. Call
rates during normal hours are 36 cents for 30 seconds though so because i
chose the 18 cent incentive thing i make most my calls during that time
anyway. Only let down on the phone is the scroller, instead of the arrows
its got that square bit and i find it a pain in the a.s to scroll up, apart
from that i like it.

Thanks Tim - sounds like a decent deal.
Unfortunately, after being royally screwed by Telstra with a Bigpond Advance
account, and more recently with their disgraceful hike in line charges, I
recently vowed never to put another cent in their coffers.
But enough of my bitchin'. What did you get in your package with the
handset? Any cover, car charger, cables or extra battery? I've heard rumours
of promotions with Bluetooth headsets, but am yet to see any. What came with
yours?
Tim - 25 Jun 2004 13:38 GMT
Well all that came with this was the phone itself aswell as a hands free ear
piece thing, i thought it came with the blue tooth one too but obviously
not. I bought a kit along with it too which cost 50 bucks but that came with
a case, car charger and another ear piece hands free thing. Only really
wanted the case but since there 25 bucks singely thought might aswell get
the lot. Im not sure where you from but when i got the phone i got a free
cordless home phone thrown in with it aswell, it may look like sh.t but
atleast its free :)

You got ripped Tim, I got 6230 the other day and bought the accessory pack
for ten bucks!

That is too bad, the cost price is about $9 and they retail for about
$25-$29 depending on brand

Too bad for you. You miss out on the good Telstra mobile offers.

Citing appreciative courtesy in lieu of the "good Telstra mobile offers" you
claimed existed, suggests that suspicions about your syconphantic Telstra
inclinations were on the mark.
Telstra's uncompetitive plans and call-rates are a given and you obviously
know it.

Any link to a "who is" section outlining your role in the company, fanboi?

I wonder if it works with an SE HBH-60 headset?

Telstra have them on their business 50 plans - where I live Telstra
have the best coverave so I had to wait until they released them :(

You can't have it both ways. Vodafone is struggling financially, and
stopping the subsidy is a good way for them to get their financials a bit
better.
You might be spending $50 per month but just because you were offered a
"free" phone in the past doesnt mean it will always happen.

Stupid logic. You need to look at the whole package, not just the handset
cost.

Plenty. None on Vodafone

Depends on how many customers they lose with that approach, dunnychild.

Pathetic, really.
