Excuse my ignorance if this has been explained before...
I'm hoping to sparate my personal and work calls on my phone bill and
thought that "line1" and "line2" could be used to do this - much like I use
multiple-number service on my land line.
I don't need or want a separate number for people to reach me, just
separate my outgoing calls on the bill. Does Telstra offer this billing
facility and how do I make ougoing calls on the separate "lines"?
Cheers,
Joe

I too had a simlar issue. Work pays for the phone calls I make from home.
They offered to put a new line in, but I found by using an override code I
got 2 bills.
Therefore my personally calls and rent goes through Telstra, any work
related stuff goes through optus. The only trick to remember is to put the
over ride code in front of the number your dialling
Here is a list of codes that I know of
Carrier
Prefix
AAPT Ltd 1414
Cable & Wireless Optus Ltd 1456
Primus Telecommunications Pty Ltd 1466
Telstra 1411

Hi Simon,
thanks for the info! Good idea to use separate carriers.
However, how do you do that on a mobile? Wouldn't you need two SIMS? Do the
prefix codes work on mobiles?
On my landline - as I said - I just use multiple number service ($4 a month)
and I get separate bills and a separate fax number thrown in.
But I need to do this on my mobile.... how?
Cheers,
Joe

Telstra have this facility. I'm not sure if you need to call them to activate
it or not (maybe Michael Ellis can help out??) You just prefix the dialled
number with a # and it appears on a separate section on the bill.

Its called Call Select.
The product has been enhanced a while ago and there are a number of ways to
get the call to be seperated.
firstly, you get a 2nd mobile number as the 2nd number. YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR
THIS NUMBER JUST LIKE ANY OTHER SERVICE. ie you can put it on a $10 casual
plan. For any individual number, just add a * to the end of the number and
its charged against the 2nd number, not available for all call types.
or dial 1181 to chuck your phone in primary mode and have all calls charged
to the 1st number. then 1182 to have then charged to the secondary.
you can even have the 1st and 2nd services itemised in different legal
names. So your work CAN pay the tab and receive the bill for the 2nd
service, while you keep the first. all on one sim!

Call 125111 for more info or to provision. you may need to attend a dealer.
