Integrated speakerphones

Ted F. - 22 Sep 2004 13:04 GMT I am looking for mobiles with an integrated speakerphone function. I am hearing impaired and wear two hearing aids. I just bought a Uniden WDECT 2300 for home use and I can now use the phone at home for the first time in about 10 years, by using the speakerphone and turning the volume up.
I am now looking for something similar in a mobile phone. Which mobiles apart from the Nokia 3200 come with an integrated speakerphone, please? Is there a site where I can do searches for things like this? I have tried the iMobile site, but it isnt very good for what I'm looking for.
I thought the Motorola E398 might have been OK when I read about the 3D stereo speakers, but apparently it doesnt have a speakerphone. How does one find info as to how loud the volume will go up to, on a phone please?
Sorry for all the questions, but this phone lark is new to me.
Thanks for any assistance or better still, any first hand reports on using a phone with a speakerphone.

Vinnie - 22 Sep 2004 23:53 GMT Nokia make an inductive neck loop, this is available for the 3310 style plugs. You just set your hearing aid to "t" or Loop and the sound is transmitted via your hearing aid.

Thanks, enthused by finding a home phone I can now use, I want to try and get a mobile I can use without the neckloop.

Dale - VISUALEYEZ - 23 Sep 2004 01:41 GMT I have been looking at buying the Motorola E398 for some time. I believe it has a speaker phone function. Apparently the speakers are so loud it can be used as a small personal radio without headphones, as it has mp3 capabilities.
This is the best write up about it I have read. However, they don't mention a speaker phone function. I have read about a speaker phone function before. If I stuble across it again I'll post it. Check with your local phone store. Some shops will open one to show you. http://www.mobile-review.com/review/motorola-e398-en.shtml
For its price, this is the best phone out there. Every function possible... hopefully speaker phone for your sake!!

I had the E398 on my list because of the speakerphone, then crossed it off because I thought it only amplified the ring tones. Now I'm not sure again :-).
The Motorola C650 is supposed to have a speakerphone function too, has anyone got one of those? Whats the volume levels like? It seems like technology is starting to move closer to the hearing impaired. Pity they havent made the same technical advances with hearing aids. I have Siemens Triano SP's and havent been happy with them, especially in noise. A lot of hype in the advertising stuff.

According to the Telstra shop, the Motorola E398 does have a speaker phone function. They ssem to think that it is the loudest and clearest phone out there!!

Is there a site where I can do searches for Sagem phones all seem have inbuilt speakerphone. My dad, who also has bad hearing, got a Sagem myX-2 for just $100 last July (less $50 cashback from Vodafone).
Just press the green button a second time to go into speaker phone. Surprisingly clear for a little mobile.

I have a Nokia 7250i with speaker phone capability and I also know the Nokia 6600 has this feature if you are not interested in the camera function.
There are many other phones out there with it like some Siemens phones but I have no experience with them.

Is the volume loud enough? I dont particularly need a camers. Clarity of sound and plenty of it are my main requirements.

The 6610 and 7250i are virtually the same, except for the camera. Both have the speaker phone inbuilt. I am happy with it as I can use the speaker phone when driving in the work vehicle (I have an in-car kit in my own vehicle). So if I can easily use it, sitting it on the dashboard while driving, it must be reasonably good.
So if the camera is not required cross the 7250i off the list and have a closer look at the Nokia 6610 http://www.nokia.com.au/nokia/0,,36935,00.html
My Suggestion is continue with the research from the feedback you are getting here and then when you have a short list go to a shop and request to try them out for yourself. No point hoping it is good enough when it may not be, at least with a short list of phones they salesman should be able to help you out easily.
You can also then maybe write a review of what you have found for a mobile phone magazine or an association for hearing impaired people.
Good Luck!

scott - 25 Sep 2004 17:44 GMT Ted,
My mother wears two hearing aids and required a mobile phone with integrated speakphone function as well. We purchased a Nokia 6100 early this year (I think this model is no longer available or is about to be superseded).
Depending where you go to look for your mobile phone, the staff sometime will let you test out the various models - that is what happen to us when we purchased the Nokia 6100, I had my mother in the shop with the mobile switched to speakphone function, and I was outside the shop further away calling her to test whether she could hear me loud and clear. We tried this at various Telstra, Optus and other mobile shops because until you get a real demonstration of the speakphone function you cannot really tell how good the speakphone function is.
We decided on the Nokia 6100 in the end because it sounded the clearest and loudest (and my mother did not need to have a in-built camera attached to the phone).
And yes, most of the reviews on mobile phones don't really tell you much about the speakerphone function !!!
cgifaq.com - 25 Sep 2004 23:58 GMT Quite happy with my Nokia 3100. I use the speaker phone regularly and with a standy of 400+ hrs. Not a bad choice for the price.

Derick

I am quite severely impaired, but the only reason I am now looking at mobiles, is because I bought a cordless house phone I am able to use (Uniden WDECT 2300 - In Australia) the model number might be different elsewhere.

I only have mild impairment and I can use the 3100 in the car on speaker phone instead of a handsfree car kit. BTW I have never have sucessfully used an earpiece on my mobiles....need biaural to hear! My sister-in-law has a 3200 and was using in the rear of the car on speaker phone....I was able to hear everything. IMHO the 3200 is better than my 3100.
Hope this helps.

Ted F. - 27 Sep 2004 02:03 GMT >Ted, > [quoted text clipped - 5 lines] > >Hope this helps. Thanks for that. That just about makes my mind up. The Nokia 3200 was the first one I read a review of, that sounded like it might be OK for me to use. Then the same as when you go into the opticians and see the large selection of spectacles, I got sidetracked, looking at lots of others. If I could find a Nokia with an excellent speakerphone and no camera, that would be OK too.
I'm getting better and more useful replies from in here, than from a deaf newsgroup that I subscribe to. Thank you.

Thanks for the info, Scott. I havent found the Telecom places to be too helpful as of yet. I want to try and get a test on a Nokia 3200, I dont particularly need a camera either, but this one is reasonably priced. The others I want to try and test are the Motorola's C650 and E398. If anyone has one of those, please let me know about the performance of the speakerphone.
