Hi all,
Quick question, the answer to which I can't find on the Optus website
(of course).
How do I get to my Optus voicemail while overseas? The normal "hold
down 1" (aka dialling 321) doesn't work, calling my own number gives
me a busy tone.
Also, should I be able to set up diversions from my phone's menu while
roaming?
Could you also cc any replies to ratkins at fastmail dot fm? Thanks.
Cheers, Robert.

The number is +61411000321.
I am not sure if divert on busy and divert on no answer will work.
divert all calls will. Divert on not reachable should work if your phone
is switched off.

You have to call the number in its full international form - +61411990321.
Sadly Optus don't have a feature like Telstra where you can SMS the voice
mail system and it will call you back at the much cheaper Australia-foreign
rates (i.e. incoming call rates from Australia).
Otherwise, you have to pay very expensive call-home charges (sometimes on
the order of $4/minute or more).

Which is why I just use a phonecard to call the voicemail number at much
cheaper rates.

Anyone who wants to save money. If you spend a bit of time international
roaming and check your voicemail plenty, doing it from your mobile can
quickly add up.

Sadly Optus, Telstra and Vodafone (though for Vodafone it reportedly
comign soon) don't have the abilty that 3's voice mail system does -
that's to download voice and fax messages to your email for free.

It shouldn't

Dependant on network, but almost always yes

Virgin Mobile has a "paging" service instead of voicemail. It's around the
lines of 70 something cents per page-divert.
Could be useful when roaming.
