Giles - 17 Nov 2004 11:07 GMT
$49 cap for up to $200 benefit
- incl talk, SMS, voicemail + videotalk
- 30c/30" call rate + 25c flagfall
- $15 min monthly spend
http://www.three.com.au/index.cfm?pid=2202&pageid=2651

Looks like you have to buy a handset with them to get the plan (as per
usual, with '3' IIRC).  Minimum handset cost is $195, or if paying in
instalments, $9/month for 24 months.

Some other cap plans:

$29 cap for up to $60 benefit
- incl talk, voicemail + videotalk (not SMS)
- 35c/30" call rate + 25c flagfall
- $20 min monthly spend (not incl SMS)
http://www.three.com.au/index.cfm?pid=2202&pageid=2653

$69 cap for up to $400 benefit
- incl talk, SMS, voicemail + videotalk
- 30c/30" call rate + 25c flagfall
- $15 min monthly spend
http://www.three.com.au/index.cfm?pid=2202&pageid=2652

$79 cap for up to $500 benefit
- incl talk, SMS, voicemail + videotalk
- 25c/30" call rate + 25c flagfall
- $10 min monthly spend
http://www.three.com.au/index.cfm?pid=2202&pageid=2541

$99 cap for up to $500 benefit
- incl talk, SMS, voicemail + videotalk
- 25c/30" call rate + 25c flagfall
- $10 min monthly spend
- Bonus - 15c SMS and 500 min/month worth of free 3-to-3 voice calls, max 10
min per call
http://www.three.com.au/index.cfm?pid=2202&pageid=2540

This is absolute fraud!

They should be prosecuted for false advertising..... the word capped as far
as I am concerned means capped not this crap they are selling!

These plans are NOT capped...... they are the precise opposite of capped

If you arent paying for calls after you reach a certain limit, then that is
capped.
Whether or not there is a higher-level cap is irrelevant

just like core and non core promises :-)

Quote from the 3 terms and conditions....:

*Standard rates apply after the Cap limit

so you ARE paying for calls after that limit (at a much higher rate after
you reach "the Cap")

So I repeat...these are not capped plans they are bulk pre-commit  plans
where there is a heavy penalty for using more than you pre-commit for.

You can chant that pathetic little matra till the cows come

So what should they call them?
Warmingup - 18 Nov 2004 07:27 GMT
Something like this?

"Hey there groovy guys and gals.......Bored with mobile plans that simply
tell you what the call rate is?

Sick of getting cheaper rates the more you use your phone?

Looking for a real end of month surprise in your life?

Are you a wizz at maths? Is adding up minutes and seconds fun for you? Sick
of the boredom of the decimal system?

Then sign up for our all new "Jeopardy Plan".....where clever phone users
get to accurately manage their usage and get a chance to pay no hidden fees!

Enjoy the freedom of not making any calls at all after running out of your
call allotment.

...and best of all....... get the thrill of hanging up on the most important
call of your life just seconds before the penalty charges kick in!"

.......bugger if I know what they should call them but they ain't capped.

Yes, I am. Instead of being on a plan where I pay 30c / 30 secs FOR EVERY
SINGLE CALL, I'd rather pay $49, and get $200 of calls at 30c / 30 secs,
included for $49, and then pay for every call

> Sick of getting cheaper rates the more you use your phone?

No, thats why I like caps

> Looking for a real end of month surprise in your life?

Your period comes every month or so, idiot.

Laugh!!! I thought my sides would split....

Now, as has been confirmed by at least one reply to my (warning) post, the
calling/promoting of these plans as "Capped" is misleading or in the very
least likely to mislead.

Even you should be able to w.nk more

Yeah, even desperately w.nking children can usually manage it.

I've been on 3s $99 monthly cap for over a year and find the $500 maximum
just right for my business & personal use.

I imagine the $49 cap with a minimum of $15 and $200 maximum will suit many
personal users (& maybe some light business users). If you use up towards
the $200 the rate is effectively 8 cents per 30 secs (& 30c after $200).

If that volume suits you then regular phone bill monitoring should help to
manage the spend within the limit and achieve the 8 cent rate.

Anyone paying $49 a month cannot expect more than $200 of calls for that
price, and your $99 cap, you can't expect more than $500

Sure. Or they can go to another carrier and get on a $20 plan and pay for
each and every call.
I agree with you.
I can't see how people can complain about caps. They are clear and
straightforward

The value of implied call credits are of equal importance with the per
minute rate. The implied value, on its own, means nothing.

Easiest method would be to specify the number of free minutes.

Yeah, possibly - but some plans include services beyond voice, like SMS,
MMS, data etc.

Mikey will probably tell us that if mobile capping is a good thing, then it
must be good on broadband too.
