Hi Everyone,

A vodafone reseller has told me that Vodafone has started to roll out
more towers again, can anyone confirm this.

Probably in preparation for Vodafone/Optus 3G?

Probably 3G, although their coverage is pretty good now for 2.5G.

Depends on where you want to use it. No one carrier has a monopoly in
all areas.

Hardly. Trails Telstra CDMA, Telstra GSM, and Optus GSM, overall

Depends size wise, yes vodafone does trail the other, but where
vodafone works it works best by far. Vodafone never do half jobs when
they roll towers out, as the others ?

Then why can't I get Voda inside Coles supermarket in Healesville yet
Telstra works fine?    :(

The views stated by me are my own and have nothing to do with any
organisation I belong to, so the prick that tried to slander me can get
f.cked because it didn't work!

Elsewhere you indicated that you're in SA.  I was there over Christmas and
was NOT impressed with Voda's spotty (at best) coverage on the Fleurieu
Peninsular, in the Adelaide Hills and in outer metro Adelaide in general.
Very much a half-arsed (quarter arsed?) job in those areas.

T and O cover the mentioned areas far more capably.

I disargee with that, I find vodafone to better on Fleurieu Peninsula,
though it does everywhere down there. Every network has it problems in
Adelaide Hills .

Not sure I understand.  There are large areas of the Fleurieu with no Voda
coverage but excellent T and O.  eg west of Victor Hbr, North of Goolwa,
Kuitpo Forest, north of Lake Alexandrina... the list goes on.

>Every network has it problems in Adelaide Hills .

T & O have made heavy investments in the past 3 years in the ADL hills.  Not
so V, to the point that V coverage is pathetic in that area compared with T
& O.  Very little of the hills are now a problem for T & O.  You need to do
a fair bit of driving to realise this.  I did (many friends in those parts
that I visited over Xmas)

Why would their towers be any different to anyone elses towers?

Every mobile network uses different stuff on there networks, Telstra in
the country tend to use a lot of 2 Cell Directions or omni's
(Undirections antennas.) As Vodafone mainly uses Directional Omni's and
undirections omni's.) Also tower high and placement are other factors
in how good the coverage is in area, Telstra and Vodafone Tend to have
towers separate to one other, and in the last optus too.

Vodafone have tended to tune or direct there towers more to the
highways more that the others.

Sounds like, at best, a hopeful reseller.  At worst, the reseller could be
lying.

Resellers are usually an UNRELIABLE source of info about coverage and
planned rollouts.

Take a squiz at Voda's Annual Report and in particular its discussion of
capital planning.  No room there for rollout of more 2G.  Voda will be hard
pressed to keep up with 3G investment and why would it do that by building
new towers?  Highly unlikely.
