Just a heads-up if you're considering getting a Nokia 6230 - there's a
newer model coming.  Who knows when it'll be here, though :/

Same dimensions, 2g heavier at 99g, with new bits including:
- 1.3-megapixel camera (from 640x480)
- 208x208 pixel screen (from 128x128)
- push-to-talk functionality
- 32MB internal memory, up from 6MB
- visual radio (?)
- some other minor features like 3D animated menus, improved calendar

All it says on the site about visual radio is that you can interact
with what you hear... so that's still a bit of a mystery.

Let's hope they can fix some of this phone's problems, including the
volume of music/radio players.  I've now decided to buy an mp3 player
with built in fm radio because of the poor quality volume & earphones
supplied with this handset.

The volume and sound quality of the n-gage was far superior.

Besides, when it comes out the SonyEricsson W800i will s**t all over
nokia's pathetic attempt - see:
http://www.imobile.com.au/Future/default.asp?ID=futuremar0501

2 megapixel camera with flash, auto focus & 4x digital zoom
262,144 colour TFT screen, 176 x 220 pixels, plus (as always) the
screen is much physically larger than nokia's
fm radio & mp3 player, plus you can turn off the phone component &
operate it as a standard "walkman" type device
38mb internal shared memory PLUS 512mb memory stick duo pro included!
bluetooth/infrared/datacable connectivity, wap 2.0, java, mms, etc, etc

Nokia are still behind.  I regret my purchase of the 6230 - it does a
lot sure, but does those things poorly.

What a heap. Sonyericsson upcoming T750 & W800 will kill the 6230i

I also hate the 5 way button. It's hard to press the middle button. The menu
layout in relation to the buttons are worse that that of the Nokia 6100
which is still smaller and lighter. An example is to read and delete a
message.

Another problem I I have with the 6230 is when I set ring tone to an MP3
song in the multi-media card, it keeps reverting back to the standard ring
tone. Any body have a work-around or solution for this???

had the same problem.

basically a mmc card voltage problem. when phone runs down battery far
enough (2/3) volts fall too far for mmc and phone defaults when cant read
mmc card. (pissed me off no end).

buy another one and try with low battery in shop (call phone) before
accepting.

It's data support is quite good though, and it supports EDGE, unlike the
W800i or the P800/P900.

Which unfortunately is useless as tits on a bull in this backward
country, although I've heard EDGE support is quite good in Brazil ;)
