After a new mobile and PDA. Combine or separate?

I have a Palm Vx and Nokia 8210. Both are nearing the end of their life
(the power button doesn't work on the palm and the digitizer is starting
to give problems, the battery is stuffed on the Nokia and it seems to be
dropping out a lot).

I've been thinking about replacing them with a combined unit, perhaps a
Palm Treo 650. However, I'm undecided as I'm also thinking about moving
to the 3 network (I'm currently with Telstra).

Does anyone have any comments either way? Any comments on the
reliability of the phones that 3 sells (they seem to push the LGs)?

I have no experience with it, however I did consider it when I bought my
last Palm. (Palm Zire 71)

Connectivity would have been a nice play option for me, not a necessity
or even a useful option.

My main considerations (over a year ago now) were costs, and the
possibility of losing or misplacing one devicd and in the process,
losing both my PDA and my phone. I'm less likely to use my Palm when
I'm rushed, hence less likely to misplace it.

Also, at the time, CDMA combined PDA's weren't available at all, and
CDMA is a better option for me currently.

Don't bother with 3. Unless you want to pay immense amounts of cash to watch
five-second cricket/comedy channel video clips. Or unless you're really sold
on the idea of putting your mug on someone else's phone, live.
Only thing going for them is broadband wireless speeds; but the phones
aren't really capable of PDA functions, excepting the ~$1000 ones, of
course.

I'm currently on a $30 plan with Telstra. Sometimes I'm over, sometimes
I'm under. I was just looking at the 3 capped plans and trying to
determine if they offer better value than Telstra. I also have some
friends on colleagues on 3. I'm not really interested in the video.

The question for me is should I stick with a separate PDA and mobile or
combine the two?

Capped plans are only good if you're spending $400-odd a month.
Or at a bare minimum, more than what you're paying.

I'd go for the seperate two, easier to replace/backup/maintain, better
battery life, etc etc.
If you're desperate to save some space, get something like an xda mini...
but expect to recharge it every night or two at best.

A1000 is the only PDA phone that 3 has in store ATM .
and trust me ... they are crap !

Its much better if you get the Treo 650 if you want speed and stability ..
as my A925 crashes every now and then [and a friend A1000 is not much
different :( ]
or the XDA Mini or iPAQ h6365 if you want PocketPC based PDA Phone. But do
note ... battery life might note be as good as your Vx + 8210 combo :P
