Friend will be visiting from the UK, has Samsung D500 locked to O2 network.
It apparently also works with Virgin Sim. Can this phone be used in
Australia on our local networks with local SIM, or does it need to be
unlocked. If the latter, can this be done locally and how/by whom, or must
it be done in the UK before she leaves?
get them to type into the phone...
*#8999*8378#
scroll to Lock State
if the result is all zeros, it will work on any sim... else it needs
unlocking.
as for who to get it unlocked by, try the local markets (you know, with the
chinese type phone dealers)

Do you mean like Paddys Market in Haymarket or Homebush, Sydney? Sounds a
bit dodgy.....

thats exactly what im talking about
not dodgy... they get the job done; and if you are the legal owner of the
phone, as far as i can tell it's completely legal to do it.
its a very simple task that takes about 30 seconds provided you have the
right cable and software
they should be able to do it on the spot, so no fear of the disappearing
stall...

Ha ha ha you would know all about being the legal owner of a phone,
wouldn't you! Scam artist.
Warning - don't buy a phone from Daniel Juhn. He was selling (and may
still be) phones blacklisted in UK from being stolen, lost, etc. Was
on e-bay for a while, kept changing his name.
Didn't want to give me a refund when he was caught out.
He had a very pleasant interview with Eastwood (NSW) detectives in
regard to his "business" activities.
Your father pleased, was he, Daniel?

funny... how they gave me the phone back seeing as it was "stolen"

Sure, just too hard for them to get enough evidence to convict you.
You should be in Long Bay, copping it up the sh.t chute every night.

i.e., one of the E&E stores, which I have always found satisfactory.
Did anyone have a contrary experience?
