Enabling MMS sending - does provider have to do it?

Hi I've acquired a new handset to replace my very aged Nokia 8210. The new
phone supports MMS, etc. but when I tried to send one (containing a pic
taken with the phone's camera) it queued the message for sending then gave
me a 'check multimedia settings' error.

Is there something I can do with the phone to get MMS sending to work, or
does the provider (Optus in my case) have to enable it in their database to
make it work?

When I go through the message settings and look in multimedia settings,
under 'configuration settings' it says 'no settings found, contact your
service provider'. I would have thought that MMS is enabled by default
whenever SMS ability is enabled, but perhaps now. The phone clearly doesn't
have the right information to send MMS messages though.

It can send regular text messages without a problem.

Regards,

Craig.

Yes, set it up using the Optarse web site.

Nope.

And it told you how to fix that, stupid.

Optus needs to enable GPRS on your account, and ask them to send you a
service message with the correct settings (or request one from the Optus
website).

Nup, SMS doesn't need anything to be set-up, whereas MMS requires a GPRS
connection and the right MMSC server details.

> It can send regular text messages without a problem.

It's a different technology completely.

Best thing to do is ring Optarse and get some tech support.

Not based on your reply, stupid.

Here it is in condensed form, as you seem to get confused by long sentences.

Craig: To make it work do I do (a) or (b)
You: Yes.

What a complete and utter useless fuckwit.
