Hi All
I bought a Bluetooth Dongle for my desktop so I could transfer data
from Samsung phone to my PC using Samsung PC Studio or Mobiledit. I have
tried Bluesoliel and Vidcomm drivers but cannot get them to interface to the
phone software even after assigning the correct ports.
Has anyone had any luck doing this and how?
Thanks Barry

Havent done it with a samsung phone, but bluetooth can be
a bit fiddly to setup due to the complexity of the capabilitys.

The first most fundamental point is that you dont need anything
more than what is standard with XP SP2 for bluetooth apart
from the Samsung PC studio or Mobiledit. If you plug the
bluetooth dongle into your PC, XP will install it fine without
bothering with the stuff thats on the CD supplied with the dongle.

You do need to pair the PC with the phone, supplying a passcard.

You even get some basic capability for sending and receiving files.
You can access those by right mouse clicking on the bluetooth icon
in the systray, where the clock is. You may need to tick the 'show icon
on the desktop' box in the Bluetooth Radios config in the Control Panel
to see that icon.

That alone should allow you to use Samsung PC studio or Mobiledit.

Bluesoliel basically is an alternative to that and isnt necessary.
I suggest you uninstall Bluesoliel and see if it works with XP SP2 alone.

There are some BT chipsets not supported by SP2 that need drivers installed
unfortunately. More often than not tho what Rod said is the case.

As for the other point - indeed, I've found most of the functionality I need
from BT (basic file transfer, wireless data) is provided fine by Windows
itself and I don't need to bother with the bullshit buggy "software" that
comes bundled with the phone.

Yeah, but with those dongles now so cheap, those should be tossed.

I paid 1c literally for the last one that XP SP2 is very happy with.

Yeah, tho it will only do the most basic stuff, wont
load java apps into java capable phones for example.

Just to be interesting; i've found you can normally just copy the JAR file,
although if the midlet has important properties defined in the JAD file it
won't work. It's not the proper way of doing it, of course.

Doesnt work with a 6310i, it says that that type of file isnt accepted.

The Nokia PC Suite Application Installer is happy to install them.

We've got a Belkin BT unit that is a real prick to get up and running.
And once it's installed (XP SP1) it often fails to connect. We get a
network error message "a network connection is unplugged" and despite
removing the dongle and reinserting it back into the USB port, it fails
to fire up. Then, sometimes it will work, and we can then transfer files
to and from the Nokia phone that it's "paired" with.

Thankfully, though, the Nokia works fine with a Blueant Supertooth hands
free device.

My experience with Bluetooth is that often you need to un-install any
other related software like your PC studio, Mobiledit or Nokia PC Suite
etc. and any other Bluetooth drivers already installed.

Then connect your new device, in this case your Bluetooth dongle and
then let the computer detect it and have your new driver CD ready when
it asks for it.

Once the device installation is complete then you can install the
required software, being your Samsung PC Studio or Mobiledit and it
should work for you.

Good Luck!!!
